USB GPS Puck with Mapsource

Do any of you guys use the Usglobalsat BU-353 USB puck receiver with Garmins Mapsource? I installed it per the instructions and get it to show up on the laptop and it works, but I can't get it to work with the latest Mapsource. M/S doesn't even see it and I tried to d/l the USB drivers from Garmin but had no luck that way either.
So is there any other map software that you all recommend,or am I missing something obvious?

The later versions of MapSource are only compatible with a Garmin GPS-device as ThomD stated in the previous post.

You could try an older version or different software.

I was starting to figure that. I tried all weekend and didn't have any luck. Any sugestions on different software that it will work with? Like Delorme, Ozi.....ect?
Thanks,

I have used it with delorme topo and streets and trips. Still a pain to set up. and if your processor/video card is not up to snuff it will be pretty jerky. Then there is the poor interface. Are you looking for off road mapping or on road. If on road try I-guidance it is made for moblile computers.

Bad wording on my part. I have the usb puck and there was a issue with the set up. The auto detect did not work as I expected. I had loaded some bluetooth software before hand and it took over all of the available ports and that is where I had the problem since I ended up going back to reconfig the ports. If your planning on offroad then try the delorme topo. Oh yea it is recomended that you have a 2gig + processor for the delorme.

Mapsource doesn't do live tracking (oh how i've tried)... so there would be no function for a puck to serve. As you've begun to sort out, I've seen it with the Delorme software. I imagine it would work with the National Geographic software too.

nRoute is Garmin's live tracking application. It is available for download from the Garmin web site.

The older Mapsource did.... but when I d/l the newest version it was gone. Then I read on here about nRoute but it still won't see the puck. I'm not real savvy on the computer stuff so after about 6 hours of messing with it I better ask for help. I'm using a touchscreen tablet computer so I doubt it is fast enough for the Delorme software... I have no other apps on it as its only for the gps. Well thanks for the advise I guess I better do some research before I buy anymore gps stuff or just stick the etrex Legend back on the window and pump it into the laptop.

Thats what I would do. I usually leave the laptop at home at just carry my Map60csx but nRoute is very easy to use. I haven't used Delorme or National Geographic so I can't comment on those but I like Garmin maps.
