Useful hitch covers

becareful with that locking pin.
I've gone through 3 of them and they always fail from off road vibrations (granted i'm doing 80 off road)
A few years ago I found one that takes a decent padlock, so I have that lock keyed to the other padlocks on my truck (tool boxes, gun cases, stuff up on the rack, etc.).

I am looking for a step that drops down lower that the receiver. My bumper is quite a ways up and I use it to get into the back of my pickup bed. A step that splits the difference between ground and bumper would be great. The step would only be mounted when needed.
I have an aluminum step that is spring-loaded and folds down from the receiver, so the step itself is about 7" lower than the bumper step pad. When it's folded up it just looks like an oval hitch cover and fits up flush with the end of the receiver, so there's nothing to walk into in the dark. No pics on this computer, but I probably have one at home (which is where the truck is right now).

Had one like that, had a reflector on it, showing in the up position. The step was aluminum and the step surface was like a meat tenderizer. But the receiver portion was like pot metal and its trunion cracked while I was using it. So much for that.

I've just had my second rubber Toyota hitch cover stolen from my truck...
I had a Jeep cover stolen too and although it wasn't that expensive it was annoying. I decided to make a few and they turned out to be even less expensive. I picked up some cheap plastic covers from Princess Auto and a Jeep sticker pack from Canadian Tire. Total cost for each cover is about $5. If they ever get stolen and I see them in another Jeep I'll know they're mine!

Here is one in my trailer (under construction).
