Using a Pelican 1700 for roof storage?

Considering using a pelican 1700 for roof storage on the truck. I'd be putting my recovery equipment and tools in there as well as a few other items. I have been very pleased with all the pelican products I have purchased and I'm sure it'll do the job. I was just curious if anyone had done this and long term weather effects on the case. I can pick one up for $90 locally, sounds about right to me. Thanks!

Only while adventuring it'll be ok, but I wouldn't recommend leaving it up there long-term. Weather wasn't the issue so much as UV causing the plastic to decay. Mine started out black, faded to a dark gray by 2-3 years, and was starting to crumble by 4.

I am considering mounting it with two Ubolts on the sides. That way I can rearrange and remove as needed.

Pelican 1720. I love it. Holds a couple tow straps, tree saver, shackles, hi-lift accessories, jumper cables, spare fluids, flat repair kit, etc. I used to just use ratchet straps on it but now have it bolted to the crossbars on my roof rack.

I picked one up the other day. Guy wanted $95. I gave him $35 given the cases were in rough shape and 10 years old. It should do what I need it to. I wanna call pelican and ask about a replacement latch for it before I drill and hard mount it. I picked up 1" U bolts but I will have to source some long ones. Filled up faster than I thought. The GoTreads I just bought took up most of the room.

I use two cases for recovery gear. Other than fading to gray, no issues here:
