using natural water sources.. water filtration..

I really don't want a huge fresh water tank on my camper, my idea is, throw a suction hose into a water source (stream pond etc etc) that than passes through a filter system, and then ready to use. it would mostly be for showers or washing things, as a few gallons from the store is plenty of water for drinking. basically just have a macerator pump or live well pump draw the water in from the water source, pass it through a filter system, and fill a small surge tank, where the regular water pump would supply it to the shower / sink.

anyone tried this? any recommendations for a filter? it would be just mostly for sediment i think..

Water for showers doesn't really need to be filtered. Can't you just boil the water you will use to wash up? K.I.S.S.

If silty, let it sit in a bucket overnight to settle. You ca use alum to flocculate the clays if present.
