Using tool chests or file drawers as cabinets in a van or RV build?

Do you have a model number? I can’t find similar online. Wondering if they have better drawer slide hardware, overall construction, etc.

I used Harbor Freight tool boxes in the kitchen and next to the bed; and HF side boxes as the pantry. They have held up great during the past seven years of use.

what have you..... if anything done to theme that may have netted a reduction in nose and clattering while driving.... or could you not hear it while driving if it did rattle to high heaven anyway? Any noise issues when camping....

Our storage is designed around 2 plastic boxes.
The little doors with spring loaded hinges keep the boxes in place in the most extreme off road conditions.
When we get home to re-pack, the boxes are easily carried inside.
All the cabinetry is made from fibreglass sandwich panel - light and strong - and glued together with Sikaflex.
It has been on the road for 14 years.

I never heard any rattling. You have to make sure each cabinet is locked so the drawers don’t open when going around corners. I screwed each box to both the floor and the wall. Rock solid.

Those steps under the back door of the Pete...is that like a tip out sort of design?

If so I've never seen it before (rare for an old geezer like me), but it looks like it would be a bloody handy solution for quite a few builds.

DWH: yes, the steps are abt 18” wide and fold out for use and back for storage. Three steps. Sides are 1/4” aluminum and the steps are puched formed aluminum; everything TIG welded together. They have worked great for abt 8 years.

Years back I stumbled into a hospital “crash cart” I believe there called. Basically a plastic tool chest with 1x1 steel corners and a nice molded fiberglass top. Put it to good use in front of my car hauler. Can’t speak to the rattle factor though.

Roll around boxes, with the flip top lids, usually have a secondary latch under the lid that locks the draws, in addition to the detents. Good travel security.
