Utility Bed Trailer For Sale

Havent been on the forums for while, but I wanted to get back on and offer the utility bed trailer I made over the course of about 9 month last year. It was an incredibly fun project, but after buying a truck and slide-in camper, I just dont really need it. A lot of time went into the build and I certainly got tons of inspiration from this website. You can see a pretty detailed write-up of the build process here: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/113739-Overland-Utility-Trailer-Build

Here are some of the features:

- Converted from a galvanized steel truck service body.
- Mounted on a 3500# axle with electric drum brakes.
- Three 17" steel wheels with 6x5.5 bolt pattern (toyota compatible) Actually have the 4th I could include as a backup.
- Trailer space platform in the back is 50" wide by 7' long less about two inches due to the swing out.
- CVT 99" awning. This will be included only for the right price.
- CVT My Bachelor RTT. This will be included only for the right price. Currently off the trailer in storage.
- 4'x7' trailer space in back with tie downs strips. Can hold 4 wheelers or motorcycles depending on size, etc.

Here is the passenger side of the trailer fully 'deployed'. Here is an overview:
- You have 3 storage boxes. The small one on the bottom rear I use for the wheel chocks or could be used for a second battery. The middle is used for the galley - you can see my storage boxes and partner stove there. The front is a pass-through that has a slide-out for a cooler (or fridge if you wanted to wire it). The slide out is something of a double slide out. So there is storage below as well as something of a table or cutting board.
- The awning (I might keep this depending on price) is the 99" awning from CVT. I have the walls and floor as well.
- The rear tire swing out has room for two jerry cans and if you have a trasharoo it's handy!.
- There are 4 leveling jack stands that can be removed and stored. Good to keep things stable when off of a tow vehicle. They are also great for changing a tire...no jack needed!
- You can see two LED lights just under the awning. There are two on the other side...controlled in the electrical box you'll see below. Aim them up at the awning and they put out a really good amount of light.
- All the boxes also have LED light strips inside them...so you can turn them on for added coverage as it's really dark inside the boxes at night.
- Up front is a propane bottle mount, an aluminum tongue box, a large water storage box and room for 3 jerry cans.
- Galley box is lined with an industrial carpet.

Here is a closer look. You'll notice a small yellow marker light behind the wheel. Very helpful for when backing up at night!

A look at the front. You can see the tongue box (breakaway brake controller is in there). On the left is the propane fired hot water heater. The pump is mounted under where the cooler sits. It is hanging on two mounts to store the leveling jacks - two on the other side as well.

Here is the back. You can see the two jerry cans and hi-jack mounted. Reverse lights and tail lights are LED.

And here is the drivers side view of the pass through box - I have some plastic boxes that fit nicely. Would be nice to build another slide to be able to pull those out on a drawer - wouldnt be too hard to add. You can also see the charger inlet mounted where the gas cap used to be. Connect to 110v to charge the house battery.

Here you can see the electrical box. Inside mounted on a piece of solid plywood you have:
- 10Amp dual battery marine charger. This is connected to the charge inlet I mounted where the gas cap once was. I only run one battery but it could be wired for two. Other battery could be stored on the other side of the trailer where I currently store the wheel chocks.
- Solar charge controller. I never used this but it's there if you want to run a solar panel to keep things topped up, which might be nice if you are parked at one location for a while. The battery gets a charge off the 7-pin connector or the 110v inlet on the side of the trailer. Running LEDs and the occasional use of the water pump doesnt use much juice.
- 1600 watt power inverter. Converts the 12v battery to 110 for household items, etc.
- PERCO battery selector switch. Ability to select or deselect a battery - choice between A, B, A+B or off. Obviously only one battery is being used in my case, but it's nice to be able to use this to prevent draining the battery when not intended.
- Marine grade blade style fuse box.
- Marine toggle switch panel - has 6 radio toggles to control lights, water pump, etc. around the trailer.

As a general estimate, I would guess the trailer weighs about 2,000-2,500 lbs. I pulled it with an '08 Tacoma and '10 4Runner. The towed it fine but I wouldnt want to run up a huge pass at 9k feet! Those engines just arent really made to tow much though. Any full size truck or larger SUV like an Land Cruiser would likely be fine. I barely notice is there on my diesel truck haha.

Known issues:
- The paint job at this point is quite solid but it's not pretty. There were some changes made along the way after I sprayed it that were covered with rattle can enamel, etc.
- The handle on the passenger side pass through door is gone. I was going to purchase a new one from a trailer parts store but havent gotten around to it - Can be opened with a pry bar fairly easily but it's not ideal.

Other than that it's all good as near as I can tell.

Price. Well, I know I am not going to get nearly what I have in it! But here is what I am thinking:

Trailer, awning, tent: $5,000
Trailer, awning: $4,250
Trailer: $4,000

The trailer is currently in storage west of Fort Worth. I might be willing to deliver it if we work something out as I am currently taking time off work and traveling.

Im tempted to keep the tent and waning regardless, but if someone wants a package deal I can negotiate.

Things in the pictures that are NOT included in the sale unless you want to pay extra: Yeti cooler, partner stove, storage boxes

Alright, I am sure I will think of more stuff, but feel free to PM me with offers, questions, etc. You can also email me: philip.sterling (at) gmail.com

Thanks.

You did a great job on that build...5K for that setup is a smoking deal.

Good luck with the new camper.

Thanks guys! It was incredibly fun to build. I am totally fine with keeping it, but it is just sitting in storage while I travel with the truck camper. Unfortunately it's not large enough for my ural...dangit. I thought about chopping off the passenger side boxes to be able to accommodate the sidehack, but it just seems like a lot of mangling. Who knows...would be a really cool rig if I did that, haha.

What's a ural? Do you have pics of it ready to roll?

A Ural is a russian bike with a sidecar - it's just too wide for anything like this.

As for pictures, if you look through the build thread I think you would find a lot more pictures.

I went and picked up the trailer today and brought it back to Ft Worth. I took a few pictures of the trailer hooked up to get an idea of what it might look like folded up.

Few things:

- Obviously the RTT is not on there. I have this in separate storage that is fairly easy to get to in town.
- You can see the red LED marker lights on the back and the yellow one on the side (the one of the drivers side works, but I didnt have the key in the ignition for that picture).
- The brake and reverse lights are LED. The brake lights are showing a nighttime running light glow like you would see with your headlights on. Ford automatically does this to trailer connections regardless of whether the truck headlights are on (at least mine does). So, depending on the brake controller, you might not see any marker lights on the truck during the day (but obviously brake lights would come on when triggered).
- As a reminder, a few things with stay with me unless you want to pay for them: propane tank, hi-lift jack, awning, jerry cans, etc.

Sold locally to a nice guy, who plans to use this trailer with his son and the rest of the scout troop! Really sad to see it go, but it's gonna get some nice use with them.
