I like the idea. I am wondering how big the trailer is? I found a 4X7 with a 1600Lb payload for $600 that may work. Thinking of getting one and then put a dexter torsion axle or timbren suspension on it and replace the 12" wheels and tires with larger ones.
I'll keep that in mind. I was thinking of 4x7, since it would be long enough and wide enough for 2 bikes, but small enough to take on trails. I want to keep the rack as low as possible, but still be able to load the bikes in.
This is a really good idea. I've always just viewed the trailer as a mobile campsite rather then utililty. I recently replaced my ladder rack with a Front Runner bed rack and still own the rack. I might have to look into this option down the road seeing how open face trailers are a dime a dozen on the used market. The ladder rack was handy but it was too tall for offroad use.
