UZJ100 built for the long trip south

Just a heads up, 100 and 105 were never in Chile. Argentina appears to have 100, 80, Prado 150, and 120. Although when I travel there I don´t see them very often.
I literally have seen one 100 series were I live and it was imported for sure. That engine is pretty rare in South America.

One other thing I have always thought about regarding the 100 was the starter. If it fails that leaves you will very little options for field repair. I always though it would be a good idea to run a direct wire from the starter motor itself, not the solenoid and have it go to a remote and accessible lug somewhere in the engine bay. So if needed you could turn on the ignition and simply jumper directly to the motor to get the truck started should the solenoid fail. I've never actually done it but its something I have thought about doing.

the UZJ100 are not uncommon in southamerica, just many of them are armored and won't see them in the trails ... the "common" ones are the FZJ100 and FZJ105 in Colombia, Venezuela and Peru ... yep the 1FZ-FE engine is the best one around, bullet proof and plenty of power ...

A pic of my 105 in the dunes

Dealt with this recently. Hand sanded it down, painted it with Rust Bullet to seal it up and installed new weatherstripping.

Anything special about those double USBs, I need a few also.

Also what seat covers are you using? Would you get them again if you needed to?

Thanks,
Zack

They are Blue Sea USB ports from Sierra Expeditions. They are live 24/7.

The seat covers are Escape Gear. Absolutely would buy again, best seat covers I have ever had.

Fwiw Blue Sea makes the dual USB's in multiple amperages, for phones, iPods, etc the low amp works great, for iPads, laptops, etc. get the bigger ones.

Looking clean Ian. Do you have a set departure date?

I am shooting for being in Baja by New Years Kurt. So much to do still though, closing out 20yrs here. I have acquired a lot of stuff in 20yrs! Some of that like the Nissan Patrol stuff is hard to get rid of. If I do't make it down by January 1st I can't imagine it will be much to much longer after that. I am just plugging away at the "to-do"list. In fact I will probably ramp it up starting this week to working 7-days a week until departure. Recently got done shutting the landscape thing down for the year and for good. That took a lot of work too, 4-weeks.

Getting real excited though as the truck build progresses and my list of possessions gets smaller.

As far as this build goes. My FR drawers will be here within an hour. I am doing a Slee rear bumper so I have a place to carry not only the spare but also extra fuel, high lift and trash bin. Drop down fridge slide needs to happen now that drawers are going in. Sliders needed as well. I have more planned for the truck but none of it is required so those upgrades are up in the air at the moment. Got to save funds for the actual trip too! ;)

Thanks for the heads up,

So what makes a USB better than any other? I need two more in my 100 and struggle with cheap Amazon findings but know there has got to be differences I can't see or touch until they are in hand.

A simple and effective setup, I love it!

Who makes that shovel?

Mike

I am not sure who makes it Mike, I got it from Front Runner. It is just a heavy duty all steel shovel with an edge put on it. Any shovel like this could get an edge put on it with a grinder. I have a few "sod" cutting shovels that you could do this too for example. They were just a bit to big an bulky for my needs so I went Front Runner.

Spent some time recently getting my roof rack set up better. Installed my surf board carriers, tie downs and adjusted how the Manta awning was mounted. In the process of custom building mounting brackets for my Road Shower. Got other things pending but I am going to stay silent on that right now.

Cool drawers, curious how you like them. Nice build!!

So far I like them and they are growing on me fast. I wanted drawers, real drawers. They were b/o'ed and may not have arrived before I need to get going. So I went with these. Downfalls I thought about with the cub boxes were I lose a bit of storage space. I can't put long items in the boxes like in drawers. Upside to these is they allow for better organization. Dirty or greasy items can be kept separate from other stuff which is nice.

The first few things I tossed in the boxes I was happy to find fit perfectly, like my solar panel.
