...is lacking. Just took our stock 100 series for its first Colorado road trip from PHX, up through the San Juans & San Luis Valley, back through Western Slope and Moab. Lot of road, little off-road, and some good sand dune miles.
Packed down lightly (for us) the 100 drove like a 70s vintage Cadillac; it bounced and swayed like a fat drunken sailor, and the rear dragged like a cheap domestic pick-up lift. It's stock suspension is clearly lacking in load and serious driver capability. I drove my 80, and an FJ60 for many years with stock suspension, but the 100 is the worst. Toyota must have put in the soft North American panzy-style suspension for us in the States :littlefriend:.
In fact, I can not put my body under the 100 stock-form as it sits so low. Not normally an issue but I suspect that Oz- or SA-spec 100s are situated higher.
The Hundy (100) is not (yet) going to be the trek-mobile, but even for the long highway road trip I very much felt like the suspension was inadequate and needing upgrades :Wow1:. $ not immediately permitting, but I am looking forward to an OME upgrade for load carrying alone.
On another note, I have to say the 2UZ-FE engine is outstanding on the highway, and despite my love for inline-sixes I must admit I found the 2UZ-FE not the best trail engine (meaning not to offend anyone either). The V8 was easily bogged down in the same sand that my other Cruiser engines would have thought nothing-of. It's shift points were not what I expected though my 100 shares the same tranny as my 80. Maybe I just need some more experience off-road with a V-configured engine.
Just thought I'd pass my experience with our 100. l8r,
