Value: aesthetic and $?

I have a line on a 1965 model 109 Land Rover with a "seized" engine, according to the seller. Up to now I have been a Land Cruiser guy but I do love the look of these. What are your thoughts on this truck? Engine options: rebuild (cost?), replace (options?).
What would the $ value be, given everything else is serviceable?

Not Rover but I once had a Chevy S10 pickup that I had bought wrecked with the intention of scrapping and then decided it was worth repairing. Searched and found another with a "siezed" engine for a good price for the body parts I wanted to use.

Towed it home and discovered that it was "siezed" because the battery was too far gone to jump. Installed a new battery, oil change and drove it. Sold it for enough to pay for parts on the wrecked one. Of course, I had to go hunting body parts again.

Relevance to you: Why is it siezed? Figure your pricing assuming the existing is beyond repair except as boat anchor material. You may get lucky but you won't be disappointed if you're right. How much are you willing to put into bringing it back to life?

As I said, presuming the truck is "serviceable" other than the engine... To me that means a solid frame, generally functional electronics, functional drivetrain (tranny/transfercase/axles).

I am assuming the engine is toast. The truck would be $800 as it sits. I have not yet seen it to investigate the frame or other issues. I am requesting info on those topics...

You'll get a more accurate response on a place like d-90.com. LHD IIA 109's are pretty rare. So while it clearly needs more work than engine, body panels can be worth a pretty good amount.

"If" its just a motor, a running 2.25L gas engine is usually pretty easy to come by and not a lot of money. But, at face value that truck looks like it needs a frame, bulkhead work, probably rear doors. The body is all there but isn't anything to write home about. Dented body panels are a dime a dozen and not worth a whole lot of $$$. I wouldn't expect the wiring to be any good so count on replacing it. Probably needs all new brakes and hydraulics.

If you go to look at it check for rusty frame, bulkhead, radiator panel, inner door frames (all doors), axle housings.

It looks like a parts truck and not a very good one at that. $500 would be generous to pay to the seller.

I Leak Oil is right on the money. I'd figure at least $5k in parts/material/labor to bring that truck back to life. A total of $15k by the time you were done wouldn't surprise me. And that's not for a full 'down-to-the-last-bolt' restoration.

Don't let it get scrapped... that still has a lot of value as a restoration project. They are hard to come by. Pass the info along on D-90.com or the Rovers North forum someone will buy it
