Lots of Wagoneer parts are hard as hell to get ahold of. Not so much mechanical stuff but trim pieces and whatnot. I do love a clean waggy though.

I like Fords and Jeeps, but I think the Suburban would be a better choice. Yes I know the problems they can have and the price to feed it. That said, I doubt there is a place where it can't be repaired or a parts store that doesn't have a lot of the parts on the shelf.

We went and drove a 2003 Expedition today and it was roomy, lots of power, many options but the mileage was too high for my liking.

Also checked out the LR Discovery II and it is too small for us. Pretty much the same size as the Hi Roof Pajero we just sold. As much as I would love to expo out a Disco I can't fit tall people in the front and an infant car seat in the back.

Came close at one dealership for a nice Expedition but they just sold it before we got there.

I have been looking for a decent 2500 Suburban but either too new $$$$$ or tooooo old.

My sister drives an '00 Expedition with 150k+ miles. It still runs but has had more than its fair share of repairs over the years. It did not tow well...they bought an F250 to cover that end of things. We replaced a Honda Pilot with a 2010 Burb. More comfortable, more room, more capability, and better gas mileage! Don't rule out the Suburban; there's a reason you see so many older models out there. :sombrero:

Because we are sharing anecdotes, my mom has 130k on her expedition and has not done ANYTHING besides regular/preventative maintenance. It (along with the previous expedition my parents owned) has proved to be the most reliable vehicle I've ever personally experienced.

Removed the behind the seat tank and then also replaced the stock 19gal tank in the rear with a 35gal bronco tank. Added the propane kit so it can run either propane or pump gas and then installed the 120gal (holds 100gal) propane tank in the rear.

With the 3 jerry cans give the atrocious 10mpg rig a 1400+ mile range. Mind you I go broke filling it, but at least I dont have too all that often!

Plan was to add an RTT to the back bed rails and then run a series of valves and t's so I could run all my propane camping supplies off the same tank.

You could build something like this for the price range you described, if you wanted an old hillbilly rig again :)

As much as I love old Fords that wouldn't be practicle for suburbia/city driving.

We bought a 2004 Expedition Ltd with 55k miles on it for around $15k. So far so good.
