Vehicle that comes with 285 75 16 tires?

Hello All-

I spend most of my time over at the Mitsubishi page but I wanted to reach out to the folks with larger trucks. I am trying to get a set of 285-75-16 tires (almost 33" tires). Costco has the best price out the door with tax and installation. The problem is that if I roll in there in my 2003 Mitsubishi Montero they will not install over-sized tires. SO I am going to go in there with wheels only and tell them it is for a full size truck of some kind. I need to know of a truck with year, make and model that comes standard with 285-75-16 tires. I did some random searches on tire web sites of trucks that I thought would have large tires and I struck out. If anyone knows the info I need that would great.

Thanks-

mid 2000 Suburbans/ Tahoes, etc. came with 265/75/16, which is close. I have 285/75/16 and have had costco install them before. Maybe that's close enough?

Ok that may work. The guy said they will usually go one size up but that is about it. I might try what you said.

Thank you

Does it have to be 16's or can it be 33"? Don't Rubicons come with 33's?

At my local Costco, I went in there with a 100-series Land Cruiser with 265/75/16 BFG's. I asked for 285/75/16 and they said no problem. Maybe it depends on the shop...

Just punched in 1999 Land Cruiser on America'sTires.com and got a stock size of 275-70-16 and optional sizes of 285-75-16 so that should be ok.
I hate to have to BS someone to get my tires. I know if I went to a 4wheelparts or another 4x4 shop they wouldn't even blink but I would pay $200-300 more.
I am looking to get all 5 so keeping the price down is important.
My OEM Mitsubishi wheels/hubs are hub-centric so I will keep the factory wheels that are 16." I could buy OEM 17's" and that would be a better tire selection but it would be more money etc... And since I am cheap and my other half doesn't love to buy expensive tire as much as I do I will stay with what I have....

"It's for my huntin' buggy, not street legal so that's why I'm bringing just the wheels. "

I don't like lying, even white lies. And I care very much about safety so I don't like trying to circumvent practices intended to improve safety.

But if what you're doing is definitely safe to do and the rule is only arbitrary... then ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

What they are doing has NOTHING to do with safety! All they are doing is covering their ***!! Corporate lawyers decided after the whole ford explorer/firestone tire debacle that changing tire size COULD be a liability so they adopted this ASSinine policy to protect themselves, NOT for public safety!! So I would hesitate to misinform them about what the tires are for, You are paying them for the tires not for piss-poor advice and liability worries!

I agree. I DO NOT WANT THEIR ADVICE! I hate it when other people want to get involved in my life! Very irritating! But if the guy at the Costco tire shop is a hardass about tire size I may walk out without tires and I want to get what I want. I will tell them it is for a dune buggy if it will work. I know I will only get one shot at my plan so I want it to work the first time. I can go to a few Costco's if I need to try to pull this off but doing it the first time would be easiest.

Try the tirerack.com, good prices, quick shipping and then you can take your wheels and tires to any shop to have mounted/balanced with no crappy advice, best way I have found to do it!
