Winter Exploration- Northern New Mexico & Southern Colorado
We celebrated the New Year with a two day trip into Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado, seeking solitude and … yes ... a few photos. A heavy winter storm hit the region providing spectacular scenery and precarious driving conditions. Although we stayed on the main roads, they were covered with snow and ice for a 200+ miles. Trip highlights included: investigating an abandoned filling station at Tierra Amarilla, cursing my frozen cameras at 20 degrees below zero, exploring the remains of San Isadore Church at Las Mesitas and witnessing ice flows on the Rio Grande.
After 2.5 days and 840 miles, we rolled back into our driveway dead tired and still cold. It was the biggest dose of winter we’ve had in years; I only wish we could have stayed a bit longer.
Enjoy.
