Very frustrated…Exped Megamat Duo LW problems

Beginning of a long trip and open the RTT on night 2 and the air in the mattress has migrated all to one side. Any attempts at adding more just balloons the end near the valves, and no air moves through the rest of the mattress. This is my 2nd one of these, first was replaced under warranty for a failed weld/seam. This one was on night five and is unusable. Anyone know of what the issue could be with a fix? $500 mattresses should be more reliable.

Ive had a Megamat single for many years. Been very reliable until this year. It has developed a slow leak which i have not been able to find. No experience with their warranty.

Exped will replace it under warranty. I had the same exact thing happen on 5 different mattresses. When they sent the last replacement I sold it and switched to Hest.

Hest looks nice but they are a tad narrow for my RTT. I bought a different exped that will get me through this trip. I may explore a custom sized memory foam next.

That mattress is literally a perfect fit! That is unfornate about the seam, I had a similar problem when I purchased mine, I was testing it in the house and a weld burst. They replaced it under warranty as well. I was skeptical at that point, but due to the MANY great reviews I felt I would give the Exped another try.

I am now on 5 years and it has worked well without issue (hopefully I am not jinxing myself).

I would definitely contact them and see what they suggest.

So I asked them why it did that, they didn’t really have an answer other than it delaminated internally.

They sent me a new one that is already back to them to fix a leak. Waiting on that one to be returned. FYI shipping these is very expensive, just short of $100.
Also the new ones are revised, different valves, different surface, different patch kit. I recommend one of those small air pumps that recharge over usb. It is so much nicer when it goes flat at 2am from a slow leak.

I first heard about Exped on this very forum in 2013. Bought one, went camping and it was leaking by the 2nd night. Don't know why I didn't warranty it at the time. You'd think that as long as they are offering these at a premium price, they'd use premium materials and assembly methods--especially since weight is not an issue for car camping. I guess it's cheaper to keep replacing them than to build it right.

They replaced 5 different mattresses under warranty? What was happening each time?
All 5 delaminated. I was traveling full time using them every night. When I told them that they said the mattress is not made for consecutive night sleeping. To add I am average build 175 lbs.

Something to be said for KISS… I’ve always made my own camper mattresses from a dense base layer, softer top layer, cut exactly to size, wrapped in a pair of slightly too-large fitted cotton sheets (one bottom, one top). Easily washable, layers are easily replaced, no fitted cover needed, and considerably cheaper than Exped/Hest/etc options

(I’ve put up with leaky air pads while backpacking, and will continue to do so, because the risk is still worth the reward there. I have proven to my own satisfaction that I can’t sleep well on a foam pad that I’m willing to carry. But in a roomy RTT, no thanks)

FWIW I also often have a pair of big dogs with sometimes sharp claws up in my RTT, and tend to spend my trips in places with cactus and sharp gravel. All signs point to foam.
