flap disks ******! You crazy man! lol throw a guard on that angle grinder when your using cut off wheels though. No matter how long you've been running an angle grinder those blades can blow apart at quite the RPM.

They don’t call em a death wheel for no reason.

I use the 4” in the air grinder, the 7” in the electric, and then a flapper wheel in another electric. The 7” in an angle grinder is scary.

ok, had a crazy week at work, but here with a pic/progress heavy update.

got the new tires and wheels mounted wednesday, but didnt get a chance to put em on the trailer til friday afternoon.

that brings it to today.....

got to the shop at 7am, and started prepping metal for welding. filing off the insides of the tubes from the cut, wiping the oils off them, etc.

my buddy got there to lend a hand and we started stitching it together. didnt take any progress pics but here it is all stitched/tacked

thats it for the day, its all tacked together with short stitch welds, but the little 110v lincoln the shop has is a bit puny to punch it all together. monday ill take it over to my exhaust shop and they can burn it in, way faster, cleaner, and easier than i can. the kid that welds mufflers there is an animal with a welder. super talented.

1.5" wheel spacers will be in monday, so i can actually mount it all up and see how things are. i mounted the stock wheels on it to drag it over to the muffler shop monday morning.

at this point i should have probably had an axle made that was the 3" wider than the one i bought, but it was a matter of time and availability, i could go to the shop that built the trailer and get an axle in 30 minutes vs a multi week wait. if it bugs me later, an axle isn't much, or hard to swap in.

next thoughts are fenders, and lights, not sure what I'm going to do for fenders.

ok, so the coupler lock was hitting the spare tire while loading the trailer onto the ball.

i don't have the budget, or the ability(time) to reconstruct the tongue to use a max coupler or lock n roll. maybe down the line, but not this month.

so i got out the trusty angle grinder and chopped some off. first about 3/4" then another 1/4"

IMG_0440-L.jpg

now it all slips in no problem and i don't have to buy or modify the tongue.

today it goes over to get burned together with the steel glue gun.

wheel spacers showed up today

IMG_0453-X2.jpg

also took the trailer over to my exhaust guy and had em burn the thing together,

of course, its monday, so had 4 cars show up so nowhere to work on the trailer tonight and get the wheels and spacers on. maybe tomorrow. also need to start designing/making the tailgate.

got the wheel spacers on tonight, blue loc-tite and torqued to 100ft/lbs

IMG_0459-L.jpg

1.5" wide.
IMG_0460-L.jpg

got the wheels and tires mounted up, so i can start mocking up fenders and progressing.
IMG_0461-L.jpg

hooked it up to the jeep and drug it around the block. its a touch low in the front, which is fine, it'll get heavier. and id rather have it low in the nose, than high.

bottom rear of trailer finished off.

IMG_0480-L.jpg

he made the corner piece with sheet 16ga left over from the sides, not really structural, just finishes off the edge.

IMG_0478-L.jpg

sides all stitched along the upper edge.

IMG_0481-L.jpg

one side is stitched along the lower frame

IMG_0483-L.jpg

IMG_0484-L.jpg

stitched along the front lower edge

IMG_0485-L.jpg

he also added some front hoop steps. might be needed to step into the tent eventually, or to stand and reach in etc. looking good and he's making quick work of it.

small progress, but progress is progress.

lights showed up in the mail

IMG_0488-L.jpg

knocked out a couple brackets to mount to the lights to the trailer. these will get welded on. scabbed the angle iron from the original upper frame from the trailer.
