Vintage Surfboard

I saw this surfboard for sale today on the San Diego craigslist. The reason I am posting this ad is because in 1960 I was the sander for AJ surfboards and sanded this board and in fact I lived in the shop the last half of my senior year of high school and graduated from La Jolla High that year. Even though the ad says the board was made in 1959 we didn´t open the shop until February 1960. I have not seen an AJ board for many years and was quite surprised when I saw this ad. Carl Ekstrom (mentioned in the ad) has been a close friend for more than 50 years. The craigslist ad:

That was only a few months before I was born but I still love to ride that style of board (1960 to arournd 65). Perfect for my home break.

So of course >>>>

Good thing I'm on this side of the country, that's too tempting to pass up. Would look great next to my Velzy.

Very Cool. I have a Dewey Weber (not from the 60's though) that I will never give up!!

That is a great find and what memories it must have brought back.

My dad gave me his 9'9" Jack's Surfboard many years ago, I remember almost killing myself at Santa Monica on it, it must have weighed more than me. I finaly discovered San Onofre and had a more enjoyable time with it.

Now it hangs as a decoration in my back room, still in superb shape.
