Hullo, saw this and thought I should check in at this tread.
I`ve been doing stuff with Land Rovers for the past 15 years, nothing much but some trips here and there as well as running them as daily drivers. Several Range Rovers, a couple of LWB series and a couple of Discoveries series I. Had a fling with a 87 Suburban for some years, but it was just to big for a daily driver over here in Europe even thought I miss it (4" lift and 35" wheels) .
Traded the latest Disco for a 86 model VW T3 Syncro this fall, just for a change of scenery and a fullfilling a hankering for a car that was large engough to sleep in and that I`ve had a hankering for since they could be bought new.
For the moment the VW is somewhat tired with 380.000 Km on the clock, but the techincal/mechanical are sound with a 1,9L TDK diesel as the powerplant. Some rust, but nothing terminal. It have probably had a lot of diverse set ups throughout the years and came with a full width sofa bed, an tiny aux battery under the right seat and a humongous OEM sunroof over the passenger compartment . I`m planning to do a rolling restoration on it and if possible source a Californian/weekender interior or build something along those lines.
For the moment its used as a car 2 in the family but will probably be relegated to car3/hobby status in a years time.
I`ve decided to bide my time this time around as to not spending obscenely amount of dough on bling for it, before I actually know what I want it to do with it. Basically, I wanted something to sleep in while out and about, 4X4 as I drive on logging roads with regularity and with some creatures comforts thrown in but cant really see a fully camper rigged vehicle, but more of a 4X4 which also takes the place of a tent and the large rucksack, when out and about.

The highly wanted PUCH emblem:
It shall be used for friendly ribbing of a friend who have a Pinzgauer, which he has spent obscene amount of dosh on...
In its tatty shape, as received:
Horribly mucky, roller paint job from hell and a electrolux ventile from a earlier version with some sort of kitchen unit installed. Some slight rust at the B pillar. Fugly 14" wheels with run down tires.
Right side:
Nothing much to add.
After several rounds with the steamwash, industrial strength soap and a stiff brush:
Some inside details:
It needs a proper cleaning inside, but due to the temps over here and the lack of a proper garage (its built but not finished) it will have to wait untill it warmer in the weather. Its currently running on some 15" spiked winter tires and as it needs new summer tires, it will get either 205 on 16" rims or 235/75-15 in the spring, the jury is still out on that one.
The only proper job that will be undertaken this winter is to change the glow plugs as its not to found of starting when the temps drops below -10 degrees. I will also probably be rummaging through the hoard of accumulated stuff and see what and how it can be utilised in the car. :smiley_drive:
