W5YI-VEC Licence renewal fee...

One of my friends received a non FCC HAM renewal form from W5YI-VEC. While not a straight scam, I think you need to be aware of this organization. They charge an $8.00 fee for using their service, you can renew on the FCC site for no charge.

Very true. It's nice of them to send the renewal reminder (I may have forgotten if they'd hadn't) and I suppose before there was the web renewal (or for those who can't/don't want to use it), it's an option.

The W5YI group certainly has done a great amount of good work bringing in more hams. For renewal though, it's hard to beat the online FCC system. It's even surprisingly fast!

Thanks for the reminder. Haven't talked on a ham radio in years but my license expires this month.
