Nice work Jereme! Can't wait to see it in person. Hopefully a hundy tailgate storage drawer unit is in the cards...great location to stuff those Chuks (if I can find some this season ;-).

Very nice!
Glad that went well for you, especially since you posted the pics all over the internet. :)
One note with the install that I was going to email you about, but I didn't want anybody else to make the same mistake, is that the washers are meant to be installed between the star nut and the body panel, they give the teeth a consistent surface to grab against, I noticed you have them under the button heads.
If you like that look I will send you some extra washers, otherwise you can just swap them underneath.

And Pasquale, I sent you an email, you tell me when your trip is and we will work something out.

Thanks for the tip. I'd rather have the washers underneath for the simple fact that I honestly tried to center every button head bolt within the washer. I assumed they were for the top due to the star washer built into the nut.

Thanks again.

A little birdie told me that your extra tailgate was at his workshop. ;) Nice. as far as chuks...I think you did the best opening day than anyone I have spoke with yet.

:) I thought that might have been the case when I saw the photo.
If you wanted me to send out extra washers I was gong to send you ones for the top with a tighter tolerance.
Those little fasteners are subjected to a lot of vibration and the tooth washer on the nut needs a good contact plate. The earlier gates had smaller hardware with less surface area and on more vibratey [yeah, I know that is not a word, but I am tired] trucks they would wiggle loose.

Not here yet, but there is a shipping label on the way for it. Who would have thought someone would be nice enough to loan me a tailgate from on of those fancy hundys!?!

Aw shucks thanks KMR
WagonGear goes to Central America!! WoHoo! You cant put a price on that kind of opportunity. [that and I am curious to see if Pasquale get arrested for having hidden compartments in his 80 :)]

Gee Dan where did you find a spare tail gate?
Apparently people in Nevada are not used to looking for trees when driving. :smilies27

Maybe it was all that extra oxygen at sea level.;)

I know you haven't seen the tailgate yet but any idea on when you might have something ready?

Do you make custom doors?

I'd like some for the rear doors and rear inside panel covers in my HZJ78 Troopcarrier, if posible.

Simon, Do I have a deal for you...You send me your troopy (You have to, since we never got them here and I need it for a template. After receiving it, I will personally drive it to WagonGears Super Secret Squirrel headquarters and supervise the design, construction and installation of said products.

I will then embark on the "Test Drive" to fully ensure that you are getting the best possible product. The "Test Drive" should only take a few years, or so.

All joking aside. KMR is the man behind WagonGear. I just did a write up, because I'm really impressed with his products.

Cheers

24HOURS may be joking, but without a troopy to work from, any custom work would be quite a dilemma.
I've personally seen one troopy in my life, heading the other way on a main road in Alaska.
Sending things of to OZ is not cheap either, I'm sure you could work with some of my concepts and have a few things built more local.
You can check out my website to get an idea of the things I make.
cheers,
Kevin R.

The rear doors on the troopy are the same as other 70 series Land Cruisers, SWB/MWB/etc.

Do you have access to any sort of 70 series?

Maybe someone on the ih8mud 70 series forum with a 70 series in the US might be interested, if they are within range of you to show you their truck in person.

If you had a 70 series to work from, would it be possible, and what might it cost to make up a couple of rear door (left and right) sets?
