Ok guys I got a new to me 2001 montero about 7 Months ago. After about 300-400 miles the check engen light went on. I checked the code and it was the catalic converter code on the driver side. I was bummed. I called the used lot, cuz I had 1000 miles of woranty, he kept saying ill order the part. His still ordering the part. Ok so Sunday I went to Frazir park to go off roading. It's was good times as a went to this trail that was a lil hard with some roots and rocks. My Monty is stock with street tires. Anyways I came up this hill with a bunch of big roots and rocks on the road. I got stuck. About 45 dig. Going up. I got out to see what way I should turn to make it up the hill. So as I was trying to go up Again I noticed some white smoke from the Exhaust. Fast forward, on my way home about 100 miles later the check engen lite went away. I thought ok maybe the lite bulb burned. I turned the car off and turn the key and all the lites came on. So I think the problem went away. What do you guys think. Has this ever happend to any of you guys? Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks Eric.

If I were you, I'd buy an OBDII code reader and check for codes. You can also get most parts stores like Oreily to read the codes for you. If the light is back off though then the code's probably gone.
As for the cat converter order and your used car dealer... You know there's a reason they have a used car dealer reputation don't you? I'd be calling them every day. I'd also be noting each of your calls (phone bill?) and emailing him about the problem so its dated & in writing in case he tries to stiff you on it.

Last I checked things don't fix themselves. It might have just morphed into a different problem 
With OBDII, it is normal for the light to come and go. OBDII runs certain "tests" in certain situations. So if it runs a test and it fails, the light comes on. If it runs the test and passes, then the light goes on. But the code is stored for sometime before it is cleared and a "readiness code" set. So basically, if it comes and goes, you have a problem.
