Warn PowerPlant Dual Force

Any one see one of the new Warn PowerPlants yet?

With a flip of the activator switch to compressor mode it puts out 5 cfm @ 90 psi, with a built-in air reservoir and intercooler. Switch to winch mode and the pulling power of the Gen II Series Wound motor with the 3-stage planetary gear train.

PowerPlantHP_1.jpg

  • 12 CFM @ 0 psi, 5 CFM @ 90 psi air flow rating
  • 100 psi max air pressure
  • 9,500 lbs. maximum rated pull (single line)
  • Line speed of 26.9 feet minute (no load),
  • 5.2 feet per minute (at 9,500 lbs. max load)
  • 125 feet of 5/16" wire rope

The only downfall is having the 100lb sucker forward of your front axles.

Seems like an awesome idea to combine a compressor and a winch. For the guys not driving a Jeep or simialar syling it might be hard to mount or find a bumper suitable for mounting...

What do you think?

I think it's a solution in search of a problem. A winch should be as simple and reliable as possible, as should an air source. Combining them adds complexity to both that didn't exist before.

I think it's a clever way to market to your existing customer base (picture the marketing team sitting around the table.. "how can we sell *another* winch to those that have already bought one?"). I like the notion, but not enough to make me sell my Warn M10000 and then figure out how to redesign the ARB bumper on my Cruiser to accept this much taller (and heavier) winch.

If I was buying a winch for the first time, though, this is a no-brainer, I like the concept.

Definitely a cool idea, but at that weight with the realatively light pulling power, I see it being to large. Make it a 12000lb'er, put it on a Power wagon, and now we're talking. I wonder if the resevoir and coolrer are what make it so large.

I think its a neat idea but I have to agree with asteffes.
If you wait to buy one, maybe next years model will have a welder built in as well :sombrero:

It would probably work well on the front of a Rubicon or an FJ-40. Not going to work for anything Toyota... too big and heavy.

Yea, I agree. I saw a new magazine ad for it recently. It would be cool for a large GVW vehicle. But for us little guys, here we have been talking about how to try and get the winch weight down to 50 lbs. or so. I see it has wire rope, so I imagine switching to synth would make a nice difference. Regardless, it is pretty cool.

Right, so when it does break I potentially lose my winch, air supply *and* welder.

Not a bad idea, not a bad price either. Just like what everybody else said, it's good for certain setups.

The winch has lesser specs than other warn 9.5 winches (slower line speeds)
Really nice compressor specs including 1/2 gallon air tank
reasonable size

1300 for warn power plant

1100 warn 9500xp
400 extremeaire compressor w/o air tank

Personally I'd opt for the second option, spend more money but warn makes winches and extremeaire makes air. I'd be a little reluctant to buy an extremeaire compressor/winch combo.

Wow! I approve of that FJ Cruiser. Very nice!

I agree! (Though I think the bumper edge to fender lip transition could be a little more elegant)

It is indeed a clever combo. Saves the wiring with only one run to make. A winch + an Oasis would easily come to the same combined weight if not more. If you want to shed some serious pounds, replace the steel cable with synthetic. It'll probably lose 50Lbs right there! I give it a thumbs up. I hope to see it at Off Road Expo this weekend.
