absolutely make sure you have proper drainage pitch on the awning or it will turn into a swimming pool and then break one of the side poles. I did that twice before learning my lesson.
Seriously though, with the proper pitch and staking it out, the arb awning will stand up to some abuse. Mine was also waterproof.
