Was looking for a trailer to move gear and kayaks. Found something better!

Just picked up this trailer off of Craigslist. It's a 1961 Apache Chief. Previous owner had it for maybe 20-25 years and never used the canvas. Original owner used it and took great care. Very happy to have found it - even though I wasn't even looking for this elusive model!

In the first couple of photos you can see some brown angle iron bolted to the trailer body with a 2x4 frame around the top. Trailer was modified to carry canoes.

Nice score! Any concerns about the passenger side getting filthy then tracking that into the bed once the tent is deployed?

Figure it's easy enough to wipe it down then deploy. Well worth having access to some storage in the tent!

Awesome! I have one just like it. We love ours. I bought it off the son of the original owner. It still has the original canvas too. Awesome find. I laydown a ground cloth to protect the trailers tent. I also put a tarp over it, when the weather is less than favorable. I can't get over the quality of your canvas. Mine is solid, yours looks amazing. If you ever decide you don't want that crusty old canvas let me know ha ha.

Haha, thanks! I too was impressed with the condition of the canvas. There's a couple patches here and there but overall for the age id say its in great shape!! Can't wait to get it out and camp.

These things are fabricated like an aircraft hull. They are 90% aluminum. Extremely light weight and strong.

Thanks guys. Spent some time cleaning up the suspension and I'm now on the hunt for some oddball bushings for the springs to finish that up. Granted its weight carrying capacity isn't that high, I should be able to keep my kit light and ultimately towable by my other rig, a diesel Jetta.
