Water pump placement

Ok so we have an old "74" camper. No water heater, no toilet. Just a sink. Our water pump died. I have another one I would like to use but it is to big to fit where the old one is. The next closest place would be mounting it higher. About at the top of the holding tank. Will this cause issues? I am worried it will just cavitate. Thanks

You really need the pump to be a close to the same level as the bottom of the fresh water tank as possible. Most will self prime with enough head but even mounted low they will sometimes have a hard time priming if the water level is low in the tank. If you mount it higher you will probably need a way to prime the pump.

The shurflo is a diaphragm pump, it self primes without fail.
my old camper had a shurflo mounted inside, 20 cm above the top of the tank, which was underneath between the chassis rails.
It was fitted built in 1992 and is still self priming with the new owner.

If you have a centrifuge pump priming is an issue, diaphragm pumps generally mark the priming lift they're capable of on the box.
