Water storage/hose/shower

I was spoiled by a Sportsmobile with exterior shower - for me, hunting dogs, muddy boots, etc. Now, I have a pickup with a roof rack on a canopy and want the same ability. Any suggestions? Doesn't need to be heated water, just gravity-fed with a hose. Thanks!

I hang a solar shower off my Yakima rack occasionally. I've also got a Coleman battery powered sprayer that I throw in one of my totes; to use I just put water in tote, throw the pump in and wash away. Lastly I've got a small pump sprayer that I picked up from Lowe's for <$10 one year. I usually carry one of these- more often whichever one I grab off the shelf first.

There is a system that mounts to your roof rack but most folks try to keep weight as low as possible. You could easily make something yourself out of PVC though. Add a schrader valve so you could put a couple PSI of air in it (shouldn't take more than 5 or so), add a kitchen sink sprayer and you'd be in business.

One suggestion, having learned the hard way...keep your water inside your truck, especially if you're going to use it for hunting...you may not think it will freeze, but one night out at below-freezing temperatures can put a layer of ice in your storage container...if it's a sunshower it might slice it open, if it's a regular 5 gallon container, it may (or will likely) freeze at the outlet, making it basically useless. Even black containers will freeze overnight.

when my wife and i had our TACO+Shell we utilized the insect-sprayer idea many have mentioned here and elsewhere on expo. Now that we have our van we have a newer homemade hack that we insulated. We heat up a kettle of hot water on the outside stove and mix with like amount of ambient temp water in the sprayer. We get a ~5min shower out of this setup and luv it.

As for the privacy? we use either a shower tent if setting up camp for a week... or due to the van's standup height we also have a temp shower setup inside consisting of a hula hoop+shower curtain+3ft wading pool. This would easily have worked for our TACO with the rear privacy shelter shown below or off a roof rack. Folds down to a bag ~3'x3'x4".

6 or 8" PCV pipe. Get you self a length of the largest PVC pipe your local DIY store has, get 2x T's / 2x End caps, few adapters + garden hose and your done. $30.

Not the best pic, but you get the idea, the black tube on the roof rack.

Just pipe with a T at each end, one end the T points up and had a fill cap, and other end the T points down and has a garden hose quick disconnect. Both the T's are capped.
Holds about 6gals, freezing is not an issue, the pipe is way to thick, I painted it black so it heats the water up during the day. In the fill end I also added a schrader valve so I could pressurize it if needed, but I never do that unless taking a shower.

I used a T at each end rather than an elbow fitting since I couldn't find an elbow that went from 8" to 2", and I found T fittings that had 8",8",2" outlets. Obviously for the fill and hose connections you need to reduce the pipe size.

I just keep the hose coiled up inside the back of the van.
