Weekend trip help

So... we have a weekend trip planned for some camping in Austin this weekend. Will be our first trip with Smittybilt roof top tent, and our second trip with our son who is right at a year old and the last one was in the summer. Normally weather would not be a concern but with the baby I'm a little sketched out now. Lows were looking in the mid 40's. No big deal. But now they dropped to the mid 30's. Wouldn't normally be a concern but with the little one, I'm a little worried about keeping him warm at night and keep the wife from being super pissed if shes cold too. So those that have camped in cool weather... Any tips? Our bags are 40 degree Rated I figured throw in a few more blankets of a comforter. But haven't used the tent yet to know what to really expect. Last thing I want is to ruin any future trips because of a few miserable nights.

We have camped with our toddler when it was in the 30's and 40's without issue, you just have him wear thermals under footed pajamas and he will be just fine under a blanket. Babies run on the warm side anyway. With 3 people in the tent you will retain some heat so that will help, just make sure it's zipped up and throw a wool or down blanket over you.

40 degree bags will be a bit unpleasant. You can greatly improve their performance by inserting a silk sleeve insert. It’s like a giant body sized sock for your sleeping bag. Also, wear a beanie cap. Do NOT sleep on an air mattress. An inflatable insulated pad like a Thermarest will be fine though. Put your next days clothes into the footwell of your sleeping bag, so they are warm when you go to put them on in the morning.

w/ the equipment-less list you have mentioned IMHO your best plan would be to change to a day @ the park from the overnighter

plan on going out early in the morning for a hike n picnic w/ a good campfire & early supper before returning home instead of pushing your luck

only been sleeping w/ the same woman(red haired) for 50 years so my advice could be in err ;-)

Even better if he can pick up a Merino liner, I love mine!
