Well, that ended badly..

I was out for a night in my little homemade trailer w/ RTT, and I had a bit of a mishap. Seems that when I repositioned the trailer by hand for better ventilation after night #1, I failed to properly reposition the trailer jacks. When I slid to the side of the tent which was over the rear of the trailer to zip up the window, she turned turtle on me! :Wow1:

Not entirely turtle, the trailer was basically resting on the rear bumper, w/ me hanging off the end, supported by the framework of my Mombasa RTT. The tent seems to have taken a bit of a beating, the only thing I hurt was my pride, as I was stuck in there for a bit! :box:

Anyhow, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a source for a few replacement parts for the framework of the tent? I don't think the damage is irreparable, but she is definitely out of commission for at least a while, so much for my little expedition next week.. :camping: :(

Wow, that sucks! Good to hear there were no injuries. I'll be sure to check and double-check the ol' Wayne's stabilizer on my next outing (hopefully next weekend).

Sorry I can't direct you to a part source, except to suggest checking with the outfit you bought the RTT from, or some other Mombasa dealer. Heck, you might even check with Fernando at Camping Lab. I'm thinking those tents might use some common parts.

I bought mine second hand, from Louie on here (BellaPSD), so I don't know where it came from. Apparently, I need to find something a little more foolproof for supporting the rear end!

I know TRDparts4U sells the mombasa tents and are extremely helpful. Give them a call.

Worthy of an Adam Sandler camping movie moment...
Did you get a picture? :Wow1:

Sorry; the mental image and all.
Nobody got hurt, right?

Took mine out for the first time this weekend.. Had already figured out I needed a bit of support under the rear end..

Was getting it all set up in the draive way last weekend and climbed up to check things out.. No having never had a trailer of any type prior to this, I knew nothing of the actual NEED for putting jacks under the rear end. I figured if I stayed in front of the axle I'd be Ok.. Of course when you're up in the tent you can't really get a good idea of where the axle actually is until it's to late. I also didn't think there was enough of a slope on my driveway to need to chock the wheels..

Ignorance in these aspects while trying to hook those interior bungees up was just enough to purchase a ticket for one on Mr Toad's Wild Ride down the driveway...

Used regular automotive jack stands this weekend, but I'm thinking I would prolly be better off with something that stays with the trailer in the event that things shift around a bit..

Mombasa has replacement parts for all but the Aluminum base for the most recent models of tents. Any Mombasa dealer should be able to get the spares for you. As mentioned, TRDParts4U is a great shop, Jacque and the guys are very knowledgable and nice as can be. Hold for shameless plug: I can also get you parts as well.

AT sells a rear stabilizer:

You could probably fab up your own for a little cheaper. Looks like it is easy to set up and will store away well in the trailer.

Hmm, that looks like a cool solution. I was hoping to rig something up that I could slip in to the receiver, maybe even leave it attached, but the trick might be to do something with my hitch hual rack that would likely be back there in the receiver..

You can see the trailer jacks on the back of mine. Pull the pin, flip 'em down into position, and it's a drop leg too. Adjust as needed. They make a LOT less noise than I thought they would going down the trail.
