While I was snapping a pic of that Groovy orange bus in Moab last Spring, I heard the owner mentioning to someone that he had a lot of resto work done in Delta, CO at a VW bus specialty shop.

I tried to find the name (maybe Grand Mesa Imports) online and I found this link for you which should be very helpful if you aren't already aware of it.

Ditto using Thesamba.com and www.shoptalkforums.com. I had a Westy (Weekender) and found the additional room due to not having a kitchen (that leaks and causes all kinds of havoc) was better than a full Westy. You've already thought about the pluses and minuses I'm sure already. There was a guy fairly local that had a full westy interior (White Salmon, WA) about 1-2 years ago. I can't remember if I located him through that above mentioned sites or the Portland (Oregon) Craigslist. The latter, I think.

You can also try the classifieds on the Full Moon Bus Club website. You can ask in the general section if anyone has one too.

IMHO while the rest of the Westy interior is a thing of beauty, the 3-way fridge is a complete PITA to keep running all of the three ways and after all that hassle, its tiny.

I think I'd prefer to rescue the stove/sink from a vehicle that somebody is parting out and build that into a custom cabinet with storage underneath and put a modern 12V fridge elsewhere.

Something else I'd try would be to adapt a lid for a scepter water can to feed a water line from the can to the sink using an electric or manual pump. That way one could take as many water cans as needed, stash them wherever and keep the live one plumbed in next to the sink cabinet.

Having said that, my home-grown campers have used plastic drawer units, one with a standard double burner propane stove on top, a washing up bowl and one of those blue 7 gal. water cubes. The plastic drawers break after a while but the whole setup is very light and very cheap.

Cheers,
Graham

Graham, as a member of your town's namesake family (Tom Lowell) and a huge fan of the Lowell LockMonsters (OK, I know they exist but I really only follow the Detroit Red Wings) and a camper van builder, I humbly ask:

Do you any pics of this homebrew you speak of?

Rear bumper, then exterior shower are next on my list, then its time to get down on that interior kitchen and cabinetry during the winter.

Thanks either way.

Cheers,

T.Low
