Whaddya think of the Canon 6D?

The 6D seems like an interesting option.

Full frame -- near same size as 5D mk ii. Smaller body overall, although with some polycarbonate in addition to magnesium. Built in wifi and GPS, a nice point for me. SD card only, my preferred format. Maybe not quite the autofocus system of the 5D. 3-in display with >1Mpixel. About the same $ as 5D mk ii.

Any thoughts from experienced Canon DSLR users most appreciated.

I don't know anything about the 6D, but I have owned several Canon dSLR's and they've all been great. If the form factor works for you, and the full frame sensor is important to you, and you don't have a pile of Nikon lenses already, then you can't really go wrong. I am currently using a 7D, which is not a full frame, but everything about it is great. It does everything my iphone does not.

I like the wifi part. It would be nice to be in the field and have photos instantly uploaded to a tablet for customers to see or for me to review. I wonder if the wifi hotspot on my phone would simply transfer the data to a tablet or would it have to go into the cloud and back out (aka, using up data). Dunno. After only using my tablet as my only internet device this week, I think its a pretty good.

Also would be nice around the house when I'm doing house-crap.

I have an Eye-Fi SD card in my little Canon Powershot SD870is walking-around camera, and it's proven to me how convenient wifi uploading can be. My Eye-Fi isn't the full internet kind -- just links to my home network, but it works great to get copies of all my images onto my PC hard disk. It's proven itself to be a gadget worth having, so the built-in wifi of the 6D is interesting to me.

I didn't go to it, but a Canon Rep came to the local photography club meeting and showed off the 6D. It was cool because he sent out an email saying, "Everyone download the app to your mobile device so you can instantly see the images when they are shot." Its cool that they have everything integrated and ready to go.

I think Eye-Fi has it too however integration already into the camera is super nice. One less thing to fiddle with.

Either way, Canon higher-end bodies and their L-series lenses are good equipment. I haven't checked in a couple of years but I hope they've gotten their act together on the wireless strobe deal.
