What did you cook today? Photo thread

I usually have a big Sunday breakfast, skip lunch and have an early dinner.
The butcher I go to down here in my winter digs is pretty good.
They sell a steak they call Ugly's. Won't tell you the cut of meat they use.
It's a secret, but the meat is tender and grills up nicely. Cheap too.
Today was part of an Ugly and some fries. Have another go on the steak too.

First time cooking a Turkey. I was supposed to just cook the Turkey but Covid happened and I had to rush and put together a couple of sides. Very basic spread but hey, gotta adapt.

I used the Turkey bag method and it came out moist. I brined it for 12hrs, should’ve been 48hrs. The drippings made an amazing gravy.

First Turkey completed, it came out pretty decent, I’ll take that as a win. Rib roast for Christmas next.

I have had my eye on that knife since it first came out. Still have not got around to getting my own, lol, life keeps happening and funds keep getting reappropriated. Lol Your food looks amazing.

Old country rustic, rough rye bread. The thin crunchy crust is the best part of this. It’s from a 1942 recipe book found in a thrift store in a small town in the Palouse years ago.

This accompanied a tasty meal of penne pasta with mussels in vodka sauce (carbs are king in this household!)

Dessert was a one egg, chocolate layer cake, made with black cocoa. The icing was maple buttercream, and the filling between the layers was a very thin layer of homemade applesauce with cinnamon and brown sugar.IMG_3996.jpeg

This recipe was from an entry by a woman in Havre Montana in a 1937 homemaker’s cookbook.

Dinner today.
Grilled chicken breast with BBQ sauce, doctored yellow rice , added a can of Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies and green beans.

The reason I use the foil pan is because my RV has a propane oven, I keep the pilot light on all the time so it stays kind of warm in there. I put the leftover rice and beans in the pan, put it in the oven a couple hours before eating and that warms things up to above room temp nice and easy.
