I can't find schedule service maintenance for Montero 06 on line, also how to check 4x4 system. I read some where in some point valve cover will leak and need attention? at what miles valve cover needs to be changed? beside timing belt/water pump what other repair I need in 70K? and what is the cost of repair for all these at 70K if mechanic has to do it.

Thx

Change the valve cover only when necessary, or any time a service requires removal of the top end and allows easy access and it makes economical sense to refresh it.

What you need at 70K depends on any service previously done. If no service records exist, I recommend the complete timing belt service usually required @ 60k.

Included Services & Procedures:

•Replace Air filter

•Replace Coolant

•Replace Engine oil & filter

•Replace Rear axle oil

•Replace Spark plugs (Valve cover issues here)

•Replace Timing belt (water pump and tensioner assy as well as cam seals, main seal)

•Rotate and Inspect tires

•Inspect Ball joints

•Inspect Brake hoses

•Inspect Disc brakes

•Inspect Drive belt(s)

•Inspect Driveshaft boots

•Inspect Drum brakes

•Inspect EVAP system (leaks)

•Inspect Exhaust system

•Inspect Fuel system (leaks)

•Inspect Steering link seals

•Inspect Transfer case oil

•Inspect transmission fluid & filter

•Inspect/Lubricate Grease fittings

•Inspect/Top Off Engine fluids

Thx, service record I see in glove box limited to oil change , nothing for timing belt/water pump. I am assuming with all those above you mentioned, it will be well over 2k at dealer?

As listed above, $1200-1700.

With trans flush, brake flush, both diffs and transfer case, $1900-2700.

and all of these due at 70k? found 06 , but all I see in Carfax report is oil change.

I guess immediate maintenance is timing belt/trans flush?

T belt and associated seals / tensioner / idler. If the trans fluid looks and smells new, let it go a while longer, maybe the next oil change.

got a phone quote from Mitsu dealer $800 for Timing belt /tensioner/ider minus water pump. with water pump is $1200. If I get the Montero I will do timing belt job and wait for trans flush which I was quote for $250 later time. I can't get the dealer to pay for it. they are not budging out. please advise? should I wait for another one?

A dealership won't pay for service until it has to. I bought my 05 with no service history, got them to do the trans fluid because it was obviously past it. The t-belt tensioner went within 1000 miles and was thankfully covered under the $$$ warranty I bought.

They will wait until someone buys it as-is, or they'll drop the price incrementally to avoid the cost of maintenance. If there was an obvious issue like a leaking water pump, then they'd probably do it before it hit the lot or pass on the vehicle entirely.

how much did you pay for warranty and what is company name? I am thinking to buy it for peace of mind if price is right. Thank you.

3 yr / 36k "bumper to bumper" was $3000 or so. Paid out $4000+ in the first 12 months and counting. I don't have the docs here, but as long as it's a legit deal through the dealer, it's probably bona-fide. Plus I overpaid on the vehicle because at the time it was the lowest-mile and cleanest G3 in the country and I bit hard. Too hard. Regrettably hard.

Thx for info. I think you now can get GenIII with under 75K for 10K plus Tax, tag, I have seen this in three different dealers, not sure if that is good price?

IMO that is high. Paid $12.5k with a 1 year 12k mile bumper to bumper warranty (mits dealer) for our '05 - 4 1/2 years ago with 78k on the clock. Didn't need to ever use the warranty plan. We have about 138k on the truck now. No issues except normal maintance. Oil changes, other fluids, brakes, tires, did the timing belt and waterpump service at 91k ( right after warranty expired) @ dealer $1200. I'll do the next one myself in the spring of '16.
