What is going on with Jeep prices?

I've got a 2007 Chevy Crewcab 2WD pickup with a camper shell that I paid $24,000 out the door for NEW. Yes that is high in MY OPINION (it retailed for $28,400). But It was either a full size V-8 crewcab pickup that gets 21 MPG on the highway or a Jeep Wrangler with ALOT less material that gets 19 MPG if your lucky. Both of my Wranglers got 16 - 17 on the highway, though I did get 19 one day with a brisk tailwind. Plus I have more power, comfort, and room. It was a very hard choice for me. I'd rather have the Wrangler at the time, but the gas mileage and higher price for the amoutn of material in them, swayed me to the Chevy Pickup. If I won the lottery I'd have to swallow my cheap *** pride and buy an Unlimited Rubicon and rig it for expeditions.....but sense I am not, everything is expensive when you are on limited income (disabled vet).

I apologize if I got some of you all in a tivy about greed, but I just wanted some of you folks that have money to realize how we without money see things. Its a different perspective. It would be nice to have so much money I can buy anything I want and go anywhere I want, anytime I want and not think about how much it cost. So look at it from our perspective and not be so hard on my opinion when that opinion is based on a not so full wallet.

Once again I apologize to all those I have offended...we all have the expedition bug in our blood and souls, and we can at least share that commonality with each other. Thank you also for this conversation. I learned a little bit more about how some people feel, and its always a pleasure to learn. Friends?:smiley_drive:

I'm a disabled veteran too, but I use my resources wisely and live in a nice home in a very nice neighborhood. I have no problem with the price of a Wrangler because I am educated as to what goes into a vehicle and what is involved with getting it out to the consumer. Interesting that you mention you cannot work, yet you are able to sit at a computer and type....I type with only one hand because I cannot type with my other hand, it is unable to move much at all. But yet I am about to finish a second degree and am an active participant and contributor to society, what's stopping you?? Instead of focusing on what you can't do, focus on what you CAN DO, life is much better that way!

Its not that I can't totally work, I can, but I just can't sit very long (back problems, to dangerous to operate on without further severe damage), stand very long or walk very far (knee and hip damage, one knew knee so far, working on second). I tried working several jobs, but they don't allow me to get up move around, etc... I do volunteer at a bird rehab feeding baby birds which allows me to get up when I need to, walk a bit to keep my legs working (I was suppose to be in a wheel chair over 4 years ago but I refuse to put myself in one) I also volunteer at a Nature center as a Guide. Notice I said VOLUNTEER, because then no one can complain about me and my physical abilities. Due to my physical problems I needed a softer ride also, and the Chevy is a nicer ride than the Wrangler, though I have been looking at the Grand Cherokee. I CAN buy and make payments on a Jeep, its I'd rather take that kind of money to pay for other things that WE NEED, not just want. Money it tight but we aren't starving and I apologize if I made it sound like that. Yes we pay taxes....you should see our property tax.

Ask yourselves if you wish you could be out of debt so you don't worry about losing your house or getting your car repossesed. Alot of people who don't make much money anf they think about those things everyday...just simply trying to make their bills and survive. All my adult working life and even thru college I worried about money and surviving, because I never made ALOT of money. Alot of money: Enough to pay all your bills, buy what you WANT as well as your needs, and put about 1/2 to 1/4 away in investments and money market accounts and bonds for the future and emergencies. Because of my career field in the military and my inability to do good on tests, I never achieved top ranking where the money is. I'm happy and proud of what I have achieved. I'm a simple person, trying to live a simple life and survive along with my family....just like the majority of the people in this fine country.

I do what I can, when I can, and how I can.....I AM important, I am FAR from lazy, and I AM NOT a burden on society. Sometimes I just wish I made more money so I don't have to make payments anymore on something. So don't jump my case because you have no idea of what I personally have to go thru in life, just like I don't know yours. I enjoy life at every opportunity I can when my body allows me to. I have dreams and those dreams are pursuent on those abilities that change day to day. So don't judge me and I won't judge you, thats up to God to do that! I ask NOTHING of anyone, if anything I love to help other people and I can't stand it when someone tries to help me...I'm stuburn and very independent, and I love adventure and traveling, its in my heart and soul. My life is my own, and I make of it as I will. Now lets just agree that life is an adventure and leave it at that. Thanks for serving and making sacrifices for our country also! BTW God bless you disabled veterans out there that are worse off than me!

Okay, now you are making sense. The only debt I have is our mortgage and am trying to keep it that way. I keep enough in savings to pay for another 96-98 Grand Cherokee chassis for when my current one falls apart, but it is easier to take the 3 percent financing for 18-24 months than it is to replenish my savings, I'm just glad we have a great relationship with our credit union that they would be willing to finance a car that old. We have 2 other cars that average 30mpg that are newer and much more reliable than the Jeep, so having a newer Jeep model that we have to rely on for a primary vehicle is not a factor.

My T12 and L1 vertebrae are fused together, but luckily have minimal lingering effects from it and can sit and stand fine on most days. The Jeep has 8-way power seats that make a huge difference in driving comfort, so it helps a lot, washboard roads can be a killer but they are for most people.

Well, have a great weekend, I'm out of here in an hour or two for one last fishing trip before everything freezes over.

Production sold for the 04-06 LJ (by years)
2004 - 11,822 Unlimited

2005 - 7,450 Unlimited

2005 - 5,854 Unlimited Rubicon
2006 - 14,624 Unlimited
2006 - 6,742 Unlimited Rubicon

Thanks! I didn't realize that my LJ is in the smallest group of Unlimiteds made, especially considering there are no Rubis for 2004/2005. Wow!

Price is driven by demand. Right now (until the new 0% interest campaign by Jeep), demand for used inventory is high.

Have you priced new cars lately? My mom just purchased a used 2010 Ford Expedition (her second), and she complained that it cost more than her second house. I had to remind her that that second house was purchased in 1969!!
The average new car is running about $32K.

Government regulations have driven prices through the roof, and all the while,

So, three things... Demand for the Wranglers, anti-business regulations (like taxes and such), AND inflation of the money supply through the Federal Reserve System has all contributed to the increase in prices.
