What is my Monty worth?

I originally built my Montero as an off-road toy but my situation changed (I moved, no parking for multiple cars), so I am thinking about testing the water and maybe selling it. I only have one picture on hand, but here is some info:

1998 Montero - Winter Package
138k miles
Timing belt, water pump, thermostat, intake plenum, belts, tranny flush (Mitsu oil), all diffs drained and filled (Mobil 1), spark plugs (NGK), spark plug wires (ngk) all done recently.
Had some suspension parts changed recently and got it 100% aligned
Mobil 1 oil changes with Mitsu filter always.
Hankook Dynapros 31x11.5x15 including spare
OME expedition shocks and springs (installed 10k or so miles ago)
Garvin roof rack with 4 Hella 4000 (100W /ea) off-road lights
990CCA Die-Hard platinum battery

The bad:
Driver leather seat starting to show some wear. Worst part is the driver arm rest (leather is really going on that)

That is all I can think about for the moment. Everything else works. I am wondering what a fair price to ask for it would be IF I decide to sell it.

I really appreciate any guidance. Thanks! IMG_0109.JPG

I'd honestly remove the roof rack and mts. The general public isn't looking for a vehicle that's been potentially beaten on off road or has excessive tire noise if they ask for a test drive. You could always sell those on their own. Selling it in it's current condition really limits your market. It's up to you, posting it for sale online is free, give it a shot. Book value on your Montero is between 3300-4300 in your area depending on condition.

I was thinking about selling the rack separate. Swapping the tires is more work right now than I would like to do. Thanks for the tips.

Bummer you may have to unload it. :(

That might be a tough sell...if you want to ask top dollar, you will likely be sitting on it a long time. If you want to unload it in a decent amount of time, you'll probably have to take a pretty big hit.

I'd probably ask around 4300 and go from there.

Big plus that you have the Timing belt done. Even though you have some nice parts on it I think $4300 is pretty high expectation. I'm looking at a '99 locally here with a few less miles and in pretty nice shape. Excellent leather, Winter Package etc... Seller is asking $2200.

Read through the Monteros on Craigslist thread and you'll note that values vary to an amazing degree depending upon region. It is, however, a generally-accepted fact that you'll lose your shirt on accessories if you sell the thing as a package. You'll almost always recoup more of your investment by parting out such things. However, we all understand how busy our lives can be and it's often the case that our changing situation means that we're willing to take the hit to move the vehicle.

If you're not in a terrible hurry, there's likely some guy out there who wants it just like it is and is willing to pay for it. Personally, I've done quite a number of fly-n-drives of 1,000-3,000 miles for the right vehicle, so you might consider advertising over a wide area and seeing what kind of responses you get. What's at the high end in your area might be a deal for someone 500 miles away.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I am not expecting to recoup everything I put into the car, and to be honest, that is a total of about 7k with everything, including the car. I might sell the rack locally up here in Sacramento.

Being so close to the sierra's should make it easier to sell that rack to someone who needs it for off road trips!

Probably true, Ray. If I do get rid of the Monty, the rack is easy enough to recoup some funds. The alternative I'm kicking around with my better half is to tame the vehicle a little and sell my other car.
