What is the best headlight and horn replacement for 60/62?

I would check with Daniel Stern @ DanielSternLighting.com. He is the source for automotive lighting. He answers inquiries very promptly and is very thorough.

As an endnote, I've had a pair of Round Eyes for my 04 Unlimited. I thought they were a slight improvement over stock. I did not upgrade the bulbs other than what they came with though.

If you're thinking of HID conversions in halogen housings keep in mind that they are illegal in all states in the US. The only way to legally convert to HID is complete HID bulb, housing and lens units.

That's still not legal, but far better than the pos plug and play kits.

A little bead of clear silicone around the metal bulb ring solves water proofing problems. Here I was thinking my Hellas were the shiznit, I've always been happy with them.. :) Any of the other ones would work well I figure though...

Thanks to all the replies.

I sent an email to Mr. Stern a while ago to no avail. So Cibie lights are out.

It sounds like Erik's Wired Wagon wiring harness is a good upgrade option for the 60. His ultimate harness is $160 and the standard harness is $105. The IPF wiring loom is $105 I would rather support MUD's Erik one man business, but it must be at least as good or better than the IPF.

The Trucklite headlights look interesting, but I would like a very bright (daylighting bright) for night driving with no auxiliary lights. Yes I know that 100 watt bulbs are not street legal in the US, but I seldom drive at night and in Latin America I doubt the brightness of my headlamps will be questioned. An IPF headlamp from CruiserOutfitters sounds like a good choice and then I can add the 100/170 bulb.

If I upgrade the harness (either Erik's or IPF), headlamp and bulbs the total will add up to a pretty penny (almost $300!). Would I be better off getting cheaper headlamps and adding auxiliary lights? Just kicking ideas around. I think I would rather upgrade my lights and not add stuff to the outside of the truck...

The horn... sounds like Hella's may be it. Unless I find a really sweet set up thar plays "La Cucaracha" :victory:

I can't speak for the IPF system as I have no experience with it. I CAN say that Erik's work is top notch, though. If you get the ultimate harness, you'll have a couple extra relay'd circuits to use for future upgrades, like aux lighting and your horn, which you'll also want higher current capability for. Spendy is right, but I love the nice clean light I get out of my headlights!

Just my .01...

Also I've always just made my own harness with a simply 5 point 30 amp relay ($5-$10 at any auto parts store) and good 14 gauge wire. It is amazing the difference it makes. Toyotas run chincy wiring all the way back through the under hood relay so it is a nice upgrade.

Same reason I couldn't get Cibies. I also made a harness from Sterns' kit, but it didn't work properly (high beam indicator stays lit). There's a workaround for it, but I got tired of dealing with the inability to contact him.

I ended up with a harness from 4crawler.com. It was only like $35 - it's clearly made in China, but it works and I never had any problems with it. I think ARB makes one as well for about $80 - check Slee's site.

Upgrading your headlights isn't cheap, but it is definitely worth it. Think of all the time you spend driving at night. It is really a night and day difference. As I said earlier, if you want to skimp, skimp at the bulbs. You can build a harness cheaper, but it takes time and quality parts aren't super cheap. I couldn't build one for less than I paid for the 4crawler harness (although it would have better quality relays and plugs).

That's interesting to hear people's mixed luck with Daniel Stern. I've always received great service from him.

There's a forum member KMR (Of Wagon Gear fame), with an excellent reputation that has just added a wiring harness for the 60 series to his offerings. They appear to be of very high quality as well.
