what kind of antenna is this?

Hello this has been on my van since I bought it. Is this a 2 m and 440mhz antenna? I don't know what it is used for....
Any help would be appreciated. I will post a pic tomorrow.

Yep, can't tell much without a pic. Even with a pic, how long is the element?

Was it a commercial van of some sort?
Might've been through a commercial trunked network. We used to leave the antennas on the cars/vans when we sold them.

Our fleet had small antennas for not real time GPS, at the end of the day when they returned to the shop the antenna would connect to a base station to upload the GPS report for the day.

Maybe a better question - what kind of mount is it? If it's an NMO, and there is a cable that runs somewhere handy, then you're all set to put whatever antenna you want on top. The antenna is the easy part. Doing a mount right is the hassle.
