What shocks are you guys running on your Classics?

Thanks for the comments guys! I went with the Bilstiens. The ride is good, though not too different than the OME's that were on it when I bought it.

Overall, I'm pleased, though they were a bit pricey. This month alone, I've sunk $3,000 into the truck. Oh well, love has no price, right?

Are you running the standard Bilsteins (yellow/blue) or the 7100's?

Koni 8240SPX. Absolutely amazing. You can drive at rally speeds on gravel and dirt. Lifetime warranty. I've had stock, Bilstein and OME and they are all crap in comparison.

On my 87 RRC I ran bilstein yellow and blue, front, rear and damper, with OME medium duty springs. Shocks kept the ride somewhat complaint, while the springs gave a lift and tighter control/cornering. Will probably do the same in my 04 D2 when time comes.

I'm running Bilstein 7100's w/ external reservoirs on my D1 and am about to install a set on my RRC as well. :safari-rig:

In my humble opinion, the best spring and damper combination is the one that comes from the factory in the form of Genuine Parts.
These offer the best ride/articulation compromise at the best price. Contrary to popular opinion (certainly in the UK) Land Rover's engineers are not a bunch of muppets upon whose talents you can improve by spending £300 on an aftermarket spring and damper kit :)

I will have to disagree with you on that one, at least on the dampers. I found the the dampers, especially the fronts, would degrade significantly by 30,000 miles, which was about 18 months of driving on our 1989 Range Rover. I replaced them several times on the way to 300,000 miles before switching to Bilsteins. The Bilsteins outlasted two set of tires and were still on the vehicle when we sold it.

I always put Genuine springs on it. For a while I had a great supply of free front springs as people were buying new Discoveries and immediately putting OME lifts on them. The fronts are the same part number, but the rears are different, at least on the antiroll-bar-free RRC vs the later ones.
