If you look on wjjeep it says it runs fine on regular but just runs that much beter on premium fuel.. so its safe to run reg on 4.7 ho
the internet said it so it must be true

My opinion avoid the auto/dual climate controls (blend doors) that I believe come standard in the Limited models.. So I would look for an optioned out Laredo or a special model "without" the dual climate controls.

Also prefer the 2002-2004 models and either engine can work for you.
WARNING.. Imho..Do not get the any Quadratrac transfer cases...
Selec trac only.. Now Quadra drive is a nice feature provided you will be running 30' tires max!.. It basically gives you traction at all four tires when needed.. poor mans lockers but expensive to repair. hence keeping the tire size down as well..

I like the 4.7L V8 I owned two of them.. limited 2000, 2004.
The 4.7L has real passing lane power where the reliable 4.0L six is not in the same category, especially when loaded. But driving down the highway or off beaten path the six is in it's enviroment for sure.

I was talking to a friend about the 4.0 vs 4.7 debate tonight. We decided it either meant that it really didn't matter which powerplant you choose, or it was a result of 4.0 owners being envious of th 4.7/ 4.7 owners having an ego:sombrero:

Since I have nothing constructive to add (and I feel like being a picture whore) here is a pic of my WJ.........It was a real love/ hate kind of vehicle:

I bought my 2000 WJ new. Quadra-drive V8, not dual climate control but every other goodie you can get. No problems aside from a door latch issue. By far the most reliable rig I've ever owned. I punished, it drove it daily for years, modified it and now have it as my dedicated trail rig. Love it, and know it will outlast my use for it.

One more thing, power to weight ratio the 4.7 V8 wins hands down. I've owned the 4.0 I6 and can say it is a complete toss up on reliability, gas milage benefit is nominal so why wouldn't you do the V8?

One thing I cant beleive hasnt been brought up is the Cooling Fan Relay... Constant problem in the Wifes WJ w/ 4.0. Its to the point now I Installed a mechanical fan. It sucked the fuel mileage right away too. I need to come up with a different setup to regain MPG!

HAPPY EASTER!

We have a 2004 Wj with the 4.0. We could have chosen a v8 but decided against it. The reason being is with the 4.0 if you have any problem you can go to just about any parts store or even better any Jeep guy in the country and odds are he/she is going to have spare 4.0 parts laying around.

The amount of support for the 4.0 is ridiculous. If we would have gotten the V8 and had problems I would be on my own in the couple of Jeeps groups I am in.

As for the lack of power. They did do a good job in the last run of the 4.0s Our plan is to stroke the current motor to 4.6 pretty much giving us the same hp and tq from a 4.7 V8. and its all drop in no mods.

Take care of the 4.0 and it will take care of you. Just my 2 cents
