so I see some engine oil on my garage floor, not sure if this is from valve cover or rear cam seal? I have receipt in my glove box that valve cover was replaced 20K or so , having said that not sure what could be the leak coming from .Since I want to do oil change is :
1.Heavier oil will help to slow down leak?
2.Using Syn oil will help the leak? or go with conventional oil since it is 16 years Montero.
3.What do you use?

Thx in advanced.

My valve covers were loose, I would check that . as far as oil stopping a leak, that's probably not going to happen. I like synthetic in mine and the cost is barely any more.

I use 10w40 synthetic in my 150k mile '99. I found that the truck would burn a little of the 5w30 between oil changes (6k or so with synthetic is what I do, although they recommend more). I like the 10w40.

T6 Rotella from Shell - best oil on the market.

Syntehic oils do not cause leaks - they make leaks seem more pronounced due to the thinner flow characteristics, but if you have a oil leak and its getting worst - just fix it. And then continue to Run T6 Rotella.

Don't take my word for it - http://rotella.shell.com/products/t6.html

I am going to use AT-205 sealer to see if that helps stop or slow down leaks . seems promising .

Why not just run good oil; fix the leaks and drive it? Those leak stop products don't work on modern cars. Maybe old rope and cork seals but not new stuff.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
I run Rotella T6 5W-40 full synthetic, but my Montero doesn't leak (out of the engine).
