What were camper manufacturers thinking with distorted rear door glass?

I mean, I presume I know what they were aiming towards: privacy, but then why offer other windows which require curtains to attain privacy? I travel with a dirt bike hitch carrier and it's a disconcerting performance on some sketchy roads/turns. Would really love to see back there to identify if something shifts. Moreover, I've always thought to myself: In the absence of extended towing mirrors, would I ever even know if I was getting pulled over (during daylight)? Probably not!!!! Thanks Northstar for employing a 1992 engineering mentality to my camper.

That was a mild rant if you couldn't tell... Should I just order new glass to size? Or rough in a new window? I think it's imperative to be able to see behind you. I entertained rear view camera's as well, but seems kind of costly. I have a "donor" type of camper I'm thinking of removing a window from, but the problem with that is the size of this window dictates that the rear door virtually transformsIMG_5898.jpg into a rear "window". it's that sizable.

I bought a monitor and camera for way less than $100. I think I have about $35 in it.

For real? None of the [commercial] trucks I ever drove had a view through the cargo. Get the towing mirrors and learn how to set/use them.

If you take the screws out of the inside of that window, the glass will basically just fall out when you pull off the inner trim. Take it to a glass shop and get some tempered glass cut, or put in some Plexi if you can stop yourself from wiping dirt off of it. (Plexi scratches easily)
Honestly, I've not seen a camper with privacy glass before, so perhaps they did learn! :)

You can also sometimes buy the whole window on E-pay for a reasonable price, depending on the size.

Mine has privacy glass, too. I just figured it was because most of the world wasn't ready to see my kind of sexy.

My 89(?) Jayco has the frosted glass. If I put and AC unit in the rear side window I might swap the frosted out. Easy enough to see your trailer at 65mph when the rear door didn't latch! Looks like dumdum or butyl sealing the rubber gasket; should be able to remove it with piano wire and careful pressure...

Mine came with a stick on convex mirror which kind of simulates a wide angle look.I upgraded the rear screen to a beefier one and you really can't see much anyway. I drove trucks with mirrors most of my life and use the tow mirrors anyway. I always take a walk around the truck anyway. As stated a run to the glass shop will be an expensive fix.
