being water tight and lockable is the main priority IMO. A hard top is a must and I would sell the thule and buy or make something that works better...

That's what I though, the current rack is all bling. I'd sell it and it would pay for the lid adn a more practical rack.

Ryan, only ideas i have is to pull the Thule setup, and take some aluminum sheet cut to fit the top. It could be bolted to the added plate already on trailer in the corners.

Then you'll need some precise measurements to cut the square holes and allow the telescoping piece to go down through. (it looks as though the outer portion is the only part that would sit above the sheet there)

You could either weld (the Thule is aluminum?) or silicone around these.

Can the base be bolted in another way other than the typical style "cap clamps" pictured? Eliminating those clamps would help..

Since you want to keep the thules, you could make a flat platform where the thule brackets are all the way across and in the middle section you could make a hinged lid and you could get access to the entire innards with a full width opening lid in the middle. You would have to raise the RTT on the thules high enough to open it.

It would be cleaner without them like Nay says

ok doc, anything is possible if you dream it .. its all about how much money do you wanna spend ? i could see a lid on that thing with the racks in place . you could make it with 4 holes where the risers go thru . we could hook you up a hydrualic system that would lift the whole thing lid and all or just have the racks rise up with the tent,, leaving acsess to some gullwing type doors in the lid . you should drop the trailer off to me along with a blank check or 2 signed of course....

I'm not looking for anything fancy, or expensive for the lid.

It just needs to be a solid cover that will go around the racks.

To get back to the beginning, I was just looking for the best way to go about it.

It's possible these racks that are on the trailer now will not work out the best. I figure I will take the trailer out open, with the tent on and see if I can live with moving them up and down. If it doesn't work then I can always look for better options.
