Whatcha coat it with?

I'm at that point in my build to cover up the bare metal of the frame. I would like to poll the masses as to what they used to cover thier frames with? I was thinking of a POR15 base and a rattle can top coat, but considering that I have un-rusted (sp?) virgin steel, I am thinking that may be a bit of overkill. I would like something durable and stout, but budget friendly. Suggestions? Thanks in advance...

I'd just go with the POR15 IMO. There was another brand that just camp out the last time I picks some POR up, but the lady behind that counter didn't know anything about it. So I went with the trusty old POR. The other brand did have more color options though. Just remember to use the metal prep on un-rust/pitted metal, so that the POR adheres better. :D

Hello cigarluvr,

I have used a lot of products from http://www.eastwood.com/. Very satisfied with results, and they offer a extensive product line with great tech support. Prices seem very reasonable with today's cost.

My experience with them.

Top parts of trailer (the white parts) - Rustoleum enamel

Bottom - Herculiner

Lower parts of trailer (the black parts) - Rustoleum truck bed liner

The white parts have several scuffs in them already... not holding up to good, but easy to touch up.

The herculiner on the bottom os some seriously tough stuff. Lives up to the name, but very rough to the touch and I'm afraid it will damage cargo if I put it in the bed of the trailer.

THe Truck bed lining is holding up well so far. I will probably coat the vulnerable sections (fenders and nose areas) in this stuff as well as the bed in the future.
