Hi,

I'm planning a trip from Canada right down to Argentina next year. we'll be travelling in a mog (read: Very Slowly), and my wife and I usually travel solo. however from time to time, it's fun to go along with others we may meet from time to time for a few days.

I'm wondering what sort of comms folks might have. For example, are CB radio's the normal thing, and we should have one, or are FRS the most popular (I'm only thinking of vehicle to vehicle stuff here, vehicles within a few hundred yards of each other and the radio's for general stuff like "hey - lets get fuel here...").

I've no big problem in bringing 2 or 3 frs radio's in case we end up travelling with others for a few days, and that may be the easiest thing, but I am wondering what others do?

Hello, given the fact that you're going south to Argentina Im gonna assume you're not coming through Venezuela... but Just in case you may be driving by... You can use CB, GMRS and FRS without a problem. If you are a Ham, to my knowledge we have a reciprocity agreement with Canada and thus you would be able to transmit without any problems!

We don't have any comm device (other than a cell phone with local sim cards), but we have wanted an FRS type device on a couple of occasions. We did use an FRS once while on a very nice drive with Friends in Colombia and it was quite handy. Not sure of the legality of FRS per country, but we do see them often and don't think cops would care (unless it is a cop looking for an excuse to mess with you, in which case they usually find something anyway :)).

Not a must have, but a nice to have.
