Wheel and tire choice

Not to beat a dead horse here, but I have a couple questions about tire size.
I currently have a 01 XJ running Jeep Canyon wheels with 33/12.50/15 maxxis bighorns, RE 3.5 lift and trimmed fenders. This set up has worked well for but I think it's time for a change. I would like to go with either a 33/10.50/15 on my current wheel and remove my wheel spacers or find a 16x8 steel wheel and go with a 255/85/16. I found some old post on here covering this question but all the pics were gone. I really want something that keeps my current height but gets me back in the fender without rubbing.
Any body have a pic of these tire sizes on an XJ? If someone had a pic with an XJ running this set up on factory steelies that would be great. Thanks, Chris

33/10.50R15 BFG MTs on stock wheels, with about the same lift you have.

They tucked quite nicely, with a little hammering to the rear of the wheel wells.

The only thing is I couldnt turn the wheels to full lock without rubbing the lower control arms.

heres the link to my XJ, there should be more wheeling pics so you can see the tuck. I have since moved to 31's.

Your tires do look a bit wide. Dare I say you will have a few more tires choices in 255/85 if you go to sixteens than you do with 33x10.50s.

That's what I was thinking, but finding a 16x7 wheel is not easy. Summit has 15x7 steelies for $41.00

Yes, 16x7 are hard to find, but 16x8 should be much easier.

As much as most would prefer 16x7 with 255s, the reality is that 16x8s are fine. I'm running 16x7.5 and have run 8s, I would again if necessary.

Unless your fond of rubbing

If you plan on turning and articulating much the best you could do is the 33x10.50, BFG makes this is a MT.

By keeping the wheel stright you can go oversize, but once you have to turn the wheel tight and push it into the wheel well you'll need the smaller and thinner tire.

When I had a 3" lift I was able to run 31x10.50's BFG's with some fender trimming without any rubbing. I pretty much went most places I go now with more lift and bigger tires. Unfortunately the wheel wells on the baby Cherokee are quite small and it starts taking a lot of lift and cutting to get
33's to fit well.

Enjoy your Cherokee and hope that the uni-body holds with all your flexing.

Thanks,

Here is an update... I just scored a set of factory Jeep wheels in the 16x7 flavor off an 01 XJ. Got all 5 wheels from a local forum for $60.00. Whats that saying about one man's trash? Oh well, time to order the 255's and sell the 33's.
