Wheel back spacing

3.5" is the "standard" pre-91 backspacing. 91-97s LC80s have a 0 offset on an 8" wheel which is what a little under 4.5" (115.4mm) backspacing stock, right?

Anyway, stock width is a 275 vs 255 which is 20mm (0.79") thinner, 10mm bump out.

So I would think ~4" backspacing would put the 255/85r16 at about the same outside position as stock. 3.25 would push that tire out quite a ways IMO.

Thanks for the input guys. Check the image below, it's Ashooter OEM 70 series wheels. I think they are 16x6.5" w/ 3.25"backspacing running 255/85's. Looks decent...could maybe tuck in a tad bit more.

I'm a huge OEM wheel supporter. I would run those LC70 wheels if I had 'em :)

A 16x7 or narrower wheel would be perfect for a 255, I'm still hesitant to run 255s on an 8" wheel.

I like the 70 series OEM wheels too but I was thinking about running some old school looking 16x7" steelies (see below). Prolly get em from Stockton.

Why don't you run the Toyota tundra steelies?

Yes, the higher the backspacing the further INSIDE they will set, the lower the further OUT. I've never run small spacers so can't comment there (I've only run 1.5"+) but these would bring back to stock, like $30 for all 4 wheels. Good resource: http://www.bigcustomwheels.com/info_specs.jsp

The only thing to consider if you do go to spacers is that you want to keep the kingpin angle to contact patch ~ the same % geometry. I don't have the kingpin angle in my head but you can afford to bump out ever so slightly with slighly larger tires to keep the stress on bearings down, if you stray too much you can introduce un-designed moments into them. That said, I've been running 315/75s on non-spaced LC80 wheels for 140k or so miles without issue. YMMV.

Dude...Scott you're on point today with the help. I did a search on Mud and I couldn't find anyone running these wheels. But it appears that if you run 255/85 skinny's on these wheels with no flares it should look right.

I'm running the stock wheels with 285s and no flares. I'm also running an ARB Commercial bar that is designed for rigs without flares. (It also is designed for the 8274)

Here is the front before I pulled the flares.

Need to decide on some wheels today. Below is a picture of a Land Cruiser w/ 255/85 on stock 16x8 4.5" backspacing. Please tell me if this logic makes sense. If I go with a 16x7 4.5" backspacing wheel and 255/85 my wheels/tires would be tucked in 1 more inch then the image below? If that's the case then I would go with the Tundra OEM wheels (16x7 4.5") otherwise I will have Stockton make me some wheels. (16x7 4"back spacing?). I can't find anything on mud that deals with this specific issue.
