When did these things get so cheap?

There are several Silverado/Sierra twins on craigslist for around $5000. I always loved this truck - is there something I'm missing here? I understand these two examples are pretty base models and the orange one is surplus.

10 years and 120k miles on the orange one. No mention of miles on the other one (not a good sign I think).

Are these lower prices than similar vehicles have been going for? I don't know.

I did some quick looking around at Tacos a few months ago and "cheap" is not the word that sticks in my mind.

these are two examples out of a half dozen...

and is 10 years really considered old for a car? (see my sig)

Nope, 10 years isn't that too old - my truck is 12, but from a consumer value question, when dealers are offering big discounts, and have been for years, the resale price goes down.

GM full size trucks have been taking a beating in resale value, the prices have come down a good bit over the past year. Looking at that Silverado, I see it has the 4.8 V8. The engine will do o.k., but if you are looking for a real truck that you can do some hauling or towing with, get one with the 5.3 or 6.0. The difference in power is considerable when you drive them side by side.

GMC / Chevy typically have very low resale, so it is not surprising.
I worked at a dealership years ago and was surprised to learn how "upside down" everyone was in their GM trucks, most couldn't get out of them because they owed way more than they were worth.
I guess age is all relative. If it is well taken care of and in a low rust part of the country, 10 years is nothing. After moving to Kentucky form the West Coast, I wouldn't buy anything more than a few years old from here. The salt on the roads (yes even down here) takes it's toll, but much more so up North.

If its only got 100K miles on it, its just getting broken in. My 97 tahoe is approaching the 300K mark. my 02 avalanche is at 150K.. The 92 full size blazer the tahoe replaced had close to 350K miles. Aside from a fuel pump needing replaced on every one of them. There was no big major issues.

3 years ago, when we were looking, we had a hard time finding a cheap one. If we wanted 2wd, we could get one, but 4x4 and extended cab models were ridiculous. 5 year old trucks with 80,000 miles had asking prices of $18,000. We ended up buying a brand new one for $24,000. Just turned 50 kilomiles and I am still totally happy with it.
