Where did you mount your Hi Lift jack?

I just bought a "Hi Lift" jack 60" and a bracket kit for mounting.
My 96' Disco has no aftermarket roof rack. I'm having a hard time finding a place to bolt it down?

I really didn't want to mount it to the front bumper.
Have any of you mounted it to the rear part of the hood-would that be to much weight? 30Lbs.

Thanks.

I don't have any experience with the Hi-lift yet, waiting on sliders. But when i get one I'm mounting it inside, either on floor in the back(foot space for rear passengers) or some how mounting it in the rear cargo area.

The hinges on the back door aren't strong enough to carry a hi-lift for an extended period of time.

ditto on not the back door-

Cut 12 " off of it and it will go inside the truck just infront of the rear seats

a 48" one is suitable for most disco's

Mine was bumper mounted with 2 off 12mm grade 8 type bolts with pinned nylocks

The front bumper/brush guard is a great place to mount your Hi-Lift. I read above you would rather not, but the front is one of the safest and easiest places to access it. I guess it depends on how often you think you will use it. I am moving mine from the rear swing-out tie carrier to the front as soon as I have a winch mounted.

I suppose a Hi-Lift makes an OK bumper/brush guard protector but it seems to me that if you wish to protect these items from damage you should use something not so easily bent. I've never understood why people want to place their jack in the place most likely to get damaged.

Is there a place in the rear of a Disco you can cobble up a mount that won't add stress on the rear door hinges? Across the back of a low roof rack seems like the ideal place to put one. But you don't seem to be in the market for a roof rack.

and always have a can of WD-40 with you so the damn thing will work. The pins don't like to be dirty.

That's why i say mount the Hi-lift inside. More then likely you're not going to use it enough to render storing it outside the vehicle, ie roof rack, front bumper, rear door, etc etc. I've heard that time and time again about them not working well due to dirt and grime. If it's store inside, you avoid this. No reason to rush, just research and do what's best for your needs.

I've had mine on my front brush guard in the wet, muddy, rainy PNW w/o a cover for 5 years. I lubricate it every time I do an oil change, and it has always worked well.
