Where did you mount your Hi Lift jack?

thats clearly a bad place there.

when you kick it with your shin walking by it you will agree:D

also the front of the bumper is a place that will contact things off road and the main beam of highilifts are very ductile and bend easily making them bind during use.

you have the lifting hook facing down as well reducing approach angle and further exposing the jack to damage.

Sorry but that is a great example of how not to mount a High-lift.

Hey but dont fret...thats the stamped steel version and they dont last very long anyways:D

Perhaps I should put it in a sealed water proof vault and tow it on a trailer
with my hazard lights on & when I go off road I'll just leave it at home so as not to damage it.

For God sakes....Live a little already!

Your "Cheap high lift" will lift just fine, i doubt your disco weighs 7k on each corner.
Your problem is "Lift points" I recommend http://www.hi-lift.com/accessories/lift-mate.html If you plan on using the jack for tire changes.High lifts can be brutal on the point where it comes into contact with your vehicle.

As for mounting it on your bumper, It will be fine if you just remember its there.
If you bump into it, it WILL bend.If you get stuck in the mud you may have to go digging for it(depends on how deep).

I also recommend if possible using a bottle jack if the conditions are right.
There was one time i had to use my high lift to get my rig up high enough to get my bottle jack under the axle:victory:

And as far as being a poser.......I think we all get a kick out of people looking at all the crap we bolt to our rigs. When i put something on or in my rig i do think "How will this look".

Thanks..motomech

Yes I do have lift-mate do to the fact I have stock bumpers.
As far as being as "poser" perhaps I could spend another 2K & pose with some store bought aftermarket bumpers:)

Until then I'll just have to be smart enough to stop before I run into anything.

Anyway.. yes I do plan on building f/r bumpers when I get some time at work.

cheers.

When you go four wheeling, you don't want to have to stop at each ditch, rock, obstacle, or whatever to check and see if you high lift will clear.

I'm not trying to be a ********, but that's a horrible place to put it!

Your not being a ********. Yes it's not the best place to mount it. That was the
whole purpose for this thread.

But at this time I can't really find a better place to put it.
*note I'm not running around town with it-just on trips till I find a better place?

This all seems to be temporary till he gets new bumpers.
If we all looked at each others rigs, i bet we could find fault with lots of stuff. What works for me, may not work for you and so on.

I mounted my 60" high lift on my rear bumper. The roof was not an option since it's about 2' higher than i would want to climb to retrieve it.Front hood didn't work for me either for fear of lost visibility.

I think the terrain you mostly see is a factor as well. And how often you actually use it are factors on selecting mounting points as well as the owners ability to build or fund the installation.

My high lift is kept inside the truck, strapped down right in front of the rear door. It's out of the elements, farthest away from the occupants, and easy to get to if needed. I leave the thing alone unless i realllllyyy do need it too... damn things get scary!

How do you have it there? Is it horizontal or vertical? I know when i get one, after i get sliders, I want it inside. I would like it back there but i can't find a place for it. There's potential for it to be mounted on top of my cargo box once it's finished. Hmmmm... Self discovery

it's tied down lying flat on the floor. It would have to come undone, and then fly over the top of the gear in order to hit anyone up front. Plus when I need it all I have to do is open the rear door and there it is.

Interesting. I didn't think that it would fit width ways. Very cool. I'll have to look into this some more. Thanks,

Peter
