Where does Tom Sleep?

Getting the 87 Toy Bj-74 ready for another Mexico, and C. America, Guatemala trip and I have a dumb question-Where does Tom Sheppard sleep when he is traveling? I have done the full blown overland vehicle build up(FJ62)-did the the trip RTT style and now am going more Tom style in a mid wheel base vehicle, w/nothing on outside except the spare, and the biggest challenge is going to be sleeping. Not a tent fan on the ground and yes have cots, but after being woke up in Chiapas at 3 am in RTT to be told "you can't sleep here" and the ensuing fiasco, I now wish to know-other than a hotel, without RTT-where does he sleep? I have seen Lowenbrau on IH8MUD and am considering pull the FRP, install platform and RTT but lose security this way. Ideas, and someone tell me-Where does Tom sleep, in Africa and where-ever in his mid sized Mercedes? Photo is not mine-

El Gringo Spectacular!
I've always seen a cot and sleeping bag combination outside of the vehicle on any of Tom's travels.

Deriguer?

Yes, I remember him saying a cot with mattress considered "Deriguer" or plush but honestly I have a hard time picturing him, alone, sleeping outside in a cot in the Sahara, or in not so friendly areas, especially being white, and alone...? Thanks.

Grab a front seat out of a Honda Element so you can fold it flat and have an "in-car Cot" of sorts. IS the BJ74 anywhere near the length of say my 1st gen 4Runner??? Cause I sleep in my truck and if I were ALONE I could do so with even more ease. A platform will help lots for getting gear out of your way... I also suggest a net on the inside of the top for stashing bedding and jackets when not needed. I did this and it's been one of my favorite mods for sleeping in a relatively small rig. I also installed Velcro attached curtains wich makes sleeping "incognito" very easy. Now you're not going to have the sefl contained pleasure of say a sportsmobile or Westfalia, but with my Lap-top and some good books, I can ride out some nasty weather or whatever for a few days or just plain re-coup if I go to hard and nobody seems to notice the little grey truck parked wherever... Just gotta hop out from time to time to "relieve" myself and then drive on to find a new place to crash...

Maybe a platform AND a flat folding front pass. seats so you can have a single berth on one side and plenty of room for gear etc. behind the driver seat...

Let's see the rig... IS a 74 similar to say a 43, like not quite a SWB but hardly the length of a 45/75???

Cheers

cot sleeping

Returned from Mexico and Utah trip. Tried the cot method, and am happy with doing it. Warm weather crucial, but saves a lot of weight and $.
No issues in Mexico, and had a blast. Troopy loading on ferry behind me.
