Hey folks,

I was looking for a 109 or long wheel base rover to carrying my self, wife and 4 kids. We have out grown our Jeep, and Disco rigs and really would like to have the option of a soft top. Any leads to good sources of used Rovers would be appreciated. thanks.

Land Rover Exchange is a good one.

What condition are you looking for? Perfect? Rebuilt? Something you need to put some work into?

Price range?

Ike at Pangolin 4x4. His site lists some 109's coming up for sale soon. They pop up on Craigslist too. You might also try calling some of the company's that manufacture parts for them or work on them - they may know if one for sale by word of mouth - not advertised in the regular places.

And then of course there is this one. Perfect for a family - but pricey I am sure.

I was told that one is for sale for over 100,000. Its a consignment truck, and the owner is in no rush to sell. I saw it in person along with the Chicago Land Rover Club at a tech day at Cooper Technica last year.
Nice but way to much for a guy like me.

Here are a few links although I haven't purchased from any. It's all part of the research process though... Some may or may not have what you are looking for. I guess it depends on whether you are looking for restored vs unrestored vs dealer vs private, etc... :coffee:

Ugghhhh! That 109 had me, for just a moment, questioning why I bought my Defender. It didn't last long, but very few rigs do that.

What is it about a series? They can be completely prestine, or rustbuckets, and still look completely appealing to the eye. I don't even remember the last time I saw a Series in a photo shoot with models, where it had a decent paint job.

They are just timeless...

Thanks folks for All the good info. I am planning to do some work on the truck. I have located several units locally. Most are really nice or really rusted out with all the major leaks. There seems to be a good choice of 88 around. I looked at one today a 1967 model that needs all new brakes, master cylinder, radiator and some general clean-up work. The frame was in good shape as well as the bulk head. He was asking $4500.00 or a good offer. I would like to try to do the brake work my self. Is this a fair price? It seemed a littel steep for the year and work that it would take to just get going. Plus new tires needed. Any thoughts.
thanks.

I know where there's one that's a STEAL. It needs paint, otherwise 99% original 1964. One owner/one mechanic its whole life. The guy painted it red, then it faded. Yeah, needs paint unless you want lots of guys winking at you. Rare to find a straight (pun intended) 99% original truck these days. He's asking $6500. I can PM you info.

I picked this up for $7400.. and he was asking 8k. It has ALOT of new parts on it and the interior is brand new. I have already fixed a few leaks, squeaks, and grinds. I'm adding cute stuff along the way to keep me excited. Steering box has been rebuilt now and some other crap ... It still leaks in my drive way (soon to be fixed until another one) and I love it. Its just marking it territory. Its a 1980 w/ the salsbury axle and 109k on the engine and all the other stuff so thats why I got it. Everything works btw except the heater.

Now as of yesterday I'm leaking fuel out of the bottom of the carb right under the throttle linkage is in the center... maybe the float bowl is dirty b/c I did have a problem a few days ago???

lrseries.com is a great place to buy from ... they are cheaper than rovers north even shipped from england!

Oh, Man! That is a nice truck! Looks great.

Enjoy ... except that no a/c in Southern GA. has to be a bear!

Watch out for trucks in the U.K. that will be shipped after purchase, and for that matter- the recent imports people are buying and flipping.
The vast majority have fresh undercoating- to cover the bad chassis, invariably. There's some real hacked together junk out there being imported that is being touted as 'great shape.'
