I have a '23 GMC 3500, SRW, Crew Cab, 4x4, 6.6L gas/6 speed.
Payload: 3325#
I currently have an Outback TT that I will not sell, as it's used for family trips. I really like the rear king slide and it is very roomy for a 25' TT!
Retired and now tossing around ideas for a used truck camper for solo trips or trips with my son. Fishing and camping. Gravel roads to lakes, rivers, campgrounds will be the most off roading I will be doing. May tow my 16' alum boat on occasion.
Would like to keep the dry weight at around 2K# or less.
I have considered soft sides, but not sure I want the hassle of ducking upon entry, raising/lowering top to use restroom (side of road break), and side vinyl replacement after it goes bad.
If I can't make the hard side work, then I may have to reconsider a soft side.
Keeping the tailgate attached is a priority for me.
Hard side would need to NOT extend beyond the tailgate. Closer to the end of truck bed, the better.
I want to keep my tailgate attached. It is a Multi-Flex tailgate with the step that drops down from the tailgate. I want to keep tailgate attached for several reasons:
What other hard sides will meet what I want to achieve?

- I want to use this tailgate step as the entry step for the camper.
- I do not want to R&R tailgate every time I use the camper (4-6 times per year).
- R&R may eventually lead to damaging the tailgate, either during R&R or while in storage.
- Need two people to R&R tailgate.
What other hard sides will meet what I want to achieve?
